I know something that won't go away
The staph germs being nurtured in the overcrowded county jail system.
But what the heck, that's not important, you might as well go back to talking about how superficial we all are for obsessing so much over Paris.

Bush/ Hilton
Perhaps if GB was treated with the same sentence for his drunk driving that PH is being held to now the World would be a better place.

We are all dragged kicking and screaming into change...
As a parent, dishing out the tough-love is hard. We hate to see our children cry, we hate to say "no" even when we know we should. The alternative, unfortunately, is that sooner or later someone else has to do the job - in this case the court. Paris will survive - there's a silver lining for her in here somewhere, and I don't mean a new reality TV series. I'm thinking more in the "real-life reality" category. Best wishes to you Paris - sincerely.

The nightmare will not end.
The really annoying thing is that nothing, certainly not this jail time, will make Paris realize that she is not above the rules of ordinary mortals. It will however make her very unhappy. Morally I'm opposed to the idea of punitive justice which I feel is a luxury that we cannot really afford, enjoying the feeling that vengeance has been served while the recidivism rate and trumped up convictions make a mockery of the idea of fairness.
In this case though I might be persuaded to make an exception. Sure it won't make Paris a better person but it will make her wear an orange jumpsuit and possibly make the aquaintence of those who are unimpressed by a career of showing up at parties and more interested in the many fascinating ways bladed weapons can be manufactured from innocuous objects and hidden about ones person.
See, now I'm doing it.

I was suffering from Paris fatigue...
...so I went on the P2P networks and downloaded 'A Night In Paris' - you know - THAT video.... and watched it.
...kinda puts things in perspective.

She is a drunk driver
It is just a blessing that she did not kill anyone. And how would the idiot press react if she had? Poor little baby my foot. She's getting the jail time she earned when the first time she got a hand-slap she turned around and endangered other people's children again...

yeah, perfect perspective. It allows you to feel morally superior at the same time that you openly flaunt breaking the law yourself by downloading a movie.
Very Republican attitude you got there, pal.

She Can't Go Away - You Won't Let Her
The only way that Paris Hilton will go away is if the media stops writing about her. The reason I have subscribed to Salon for all these years is because I want to read about things that matter. I want to read about people who matter. I don't subscribe in order to read the same crap that I can find on Perez Hilton's blog or TMZ or one of the seemingly thousands of websites devoted to the worship of empty celebrities.
Unfortunately, like every other third rate blog, tabloid, entertainment news show and all the other tools out there that work so hard at distracting people from issues that are actually important, Salon can't resist jumping on the slowest moving bandwagon and devoting an article a day to this totally irrelevent person. The bulk of the American population has turned into junkies, Paris Hilton is the most powerful drug since crack cocaine and the Catholic church, and the media has become nothing more than the archetypical drug dealer hanging out in front of elementary schools.

If only
This crying, screaming horror had happened to George W. Bush years ago, would we all be in this predicament now? If we had footage of him peeing his pants when he got his draft notice like I know he did right before he called HIS mommy, that would have crushed his chances to be the maniacal, power hungry monster he is now. But that's not what the news used to be about.
Thank you so much for pointing out that we as a society have not asked for this in the least. I am old enough to remember watching the news when it was dry as toast and not supposed to be entertaining, and it wasn't. News has definitely not changed over the years because I wanted it to. Like everything else, it's about what's cheap and easy.
As for Paris Hilton, I watched a documentary on PBS (where else besides HBO) the other night about juveniles in prison for life without possibility of parole. I won't go into the details except to say that it seemed pretty unfair and just plain crazy. Those are the stories the mainstream media should be salivating over. Those are citizens of the US, whether they're young, old, poor, middle class or rich. And they are COMPELLING TRUE STORIES. What the hell is going on. Paris Hilton is boring.

Paris directs the media? How so?
Did she buy it like Rupert Murdoch? Have you been commanded to watch her? If you're fed up with Paris why don't you just turn the station to something worthwhile. If everything you find worthwile is so filled with news of Paris Hilton, maybe the problem lies with you...you wouldn't be alone..and "the media" is counting on you to watch so it can sell you the wonderfull health of "corn syrup and water" and "viagra" and SUVs and...well, you get the picture...cuz it's everywhere.
As long as a non-violent, non-threatening person like Paris (or Scooter Libby or Martha Stewart or Joe Blow (especially non-white Joe Blow) is put in jail for something someone should be fined and made to do public service for, none of us are really immune from being threatened with jail...and you know why jail is unpleasant...because it is a form of torture. We keep it crappy and abusive presumably so it is a deterrent...you can see how well that works. It's the living definition of insanity.
Save your anger for stuff that matters. The media doesn't care if you like it or not...they only want to sell you stuff and have shown consistently there is nothing they wont do to keep your attention. Stop being such a dupe and soon Paris will go away. In the mean time let's start taxing the before profit revenues from these abusers of the airwaves and cable in order to pay for campaign finance..there's an issue that should make you upset but one that the Media (controlled by Paris, really?) won't even allow to be discusse on their oxygen sucking PR machine which proffers itself as news.
