Forget that other list. We pick the men who really set our hearts aflame -- and there's nary a pretty-boy actor among them.

  • Perfect...

You got the good ones...Alan Rickman, Alton Brown, Jon and Stephen......A thinking woman's list.

    Yay!

..I admit I would have added Gabriel Byrne...but thats just me.

  • YES! Sexy men for thinking women

So, I am not the only one who finds Colbert sexy. One man you did leave off the list who needs a mention is Vincent D'Onfrio. Yup, he is soft and he is not pretty, but those dark, almost dangerous eyes make me melt every time. Enough with the pretty boys who are about as deep as a rain puddle, give me the men who think!

  • Some Additions To Your List

    1) Birol Unel, the unbelievably sexy star of Fatih Akin's film "Head-On"

    2) Rowland S. Howard, the great Australian guitar player who's been making art girls swoon for over two decades now

    3) Blixa Bargeld, the impossibly elegant German singer

    4) That guy who plays Sam Anders on Battlestar Galactica

    5) That cute guy from the American version of The Office - he really is the boyfriend you all wish you had

  • Ahem!

How can you leave out the following:

    -Ewan McGregor

    -Christian Bale

    -Viggo Mortenson

    -Keith Olbermann

    I demand a recount!

  • If Plain Vanilla Isn't Sexy?

If plain vanilla just doesn't do it for you girls then the sexiest man in the world must be in India - they have spicy, curry flavoured ice cream there.

  • veddy intellesting

Why are all but one of these people Caucasian?

  • So many men...

I was lucky enough to see Alan Rickman perform on Broadway in Noel Coward's "Private Lives." Early in the first act he walked up behind his co-star Lindsay Duncan and placed his hands on her bare shoulders (she was wearing a strapless gown) and murmured, "I love you." I left my body at that point and didn't return until I was having an apres theater meal. His performance was a glorious thing to behold. He and Ms. Duncan had a lot to say that night, but you felt the carnality of their relationship in every breath they took. It's great to see that he made the cut.

  • Malcolm Reynolds

of Firefly/Sernity obscurity. Not Nathan Fillion, who's cute I guess, but the character of Mal- a sexy bad boy with a heart of gold. And he turns up naked occasionally, which is very nice indeed.

Also Colin Firth- as D'Arcy in both P & P and BJ's Diary, he has a way of looking at a woman with such desire in his eyes... oh, I swoon!

And I'll add to all the others- I thought I was the only one who thinks Stephen Colbert is hot!

  • the men of battlestar?

Battlestar Galactica actors should make an appearance on this list for the mere fact that this show seems to have a place in the geek kingdom of men and women the world over. While Battlestar Galactica has some very "conventionally" attractive men, there are two actors that consistently take my breath away and I haven't seen their names around-- Edward James Olmos (Bill Adama) and Alessandro Juliani (Felix Gaeta). I squealed like a school girl when Adama kissed Mary McDonnell's President Laura Roslin and he shaved off his moustache. There is also MADDENINGLY little information/interviews with Juliani. I'm about ready to pose as an entertainment journalist and do the article myself if I don't see more press! Added bonus: they add a little color to the list.

  • The List That Made Me Loathe Salon...

"Not just some plain vanilla man." Yee-e-e-eah.

Cripes, if there was ever a reminder that I am part of a blindered demographic, here it is.

One minority. Who's also -- what? -- the *only* sports guy? Who's whiter than my irish father?

Two satirists. How wacky and edgy.

    *How* many Brits?!

And no pretty boys, excepting the obviously hideous Neil Patrick Harris and Mark Ruffalo.

In sum: you all want the same middle-aged, white, wry and dry indy artist.

These are your sexual fantasies? I think not. This is the list you tell your friends. Ladies, get out of Manhattan more, go back to your computers and get honest.

  • Two Words:

    Eddie. Vedder.

  • My votes

Viggo Mortensen: Because he plays the hottest beautiful losers in movies, he writes poetry, and he loved a woman who was more interesting than classically beautiful.

Benicio del Toro: Because he looks like he knows (and revels in) all the good nasty stuff - like if you were locked in a room with him awaiting certain death, he'd make the interim moments memorable enough that you could let the rest of it go with a big-ass grin on your face.

Tommy Lee Jones: Because you know he could kick anybody's butt and not think twice about it. Because you get the sense that he knows who and what he is and doesn't give a damn about being anything else.

  • Help me, IMDB!

I've been saying Tim Gunn for awhile, but I think I meant James Gunn.

  • As in art, originality is not always a virtue

Okay, I wouldn't have thought of most of the entries on this list.

Steven Colbert? I think someone's not being completely honest, here.

Got to page two: Sasha Baron Cohen? Yes these guys are "hot", in the pop, of-the-moment sense of the word, but "sexy"?

I'm a straight man, and I must insist that all "Sexiest" lists-- for both men and women-- be not so damn cerebral!

    Mark

  • Love those Austen men

I loved reading this list. Was happy to see Colin Firth and Hugh Laurie. You'll think me strange--but Alan Rickman's a bit too jowly for me. However, another gorgeous Brit, who some might say is now "jowly", too, is Captain Frederick Wentworth, played by Ciaran Hinds -- in "Persuasion" of 1995. I watched that movie everyday for a month and couldn't get enough of his longing and devotion to Anne Elliot. I agreed with almost every entry made in all of these letters! Teresa in Toronto

  • Where's the SEXIEST WOMAN ALIVE article?

    Or would that be "sexist?"

    Funny how that works.

  • My secret boyfriend

Reza Aslan, Reza Aslan, Reza Aslan. Beauty and brains and a lovely voice. Sigh...

  • for all of you asking about the "sexiest women" list

That's like when a child asks, "When is Children's Day? There's Mother's Day and Father's Day..." Just go to any publication and you're bound to find one.

Also props to the Eugene Hutz suggestion! I'd spread him on my toast any day.

  • BHL

Nice list, but I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Bernard Henri Levy. His accent is lovely, even if he is a bit full of himself.
