Forget that other list. We pick the men who really set our hearts aflame -- and there's nary a pretty-boy actor among them.

  • What about when Jane Fonda kissed Colbert???

I realized I have a massive crush on Colbert very recently. It had been building up all along, since I started watching his video clips on Youtube and the comedy central site. (I live in Brazil). First of all, I love men that make me laugh, period. But then I saw his amazing stint at the White House press dinner, staring Bush in the face and I thought, wow, my hero. Some girls on the Thank you Stephen Colbert blog said they wanted to have his baby, but it had not dawned on me that I did too. And then I saw his clip with Fonda and Steinem. His reaction to Fonda´s kisses completed the picture. He was surprised, flattered, turned on, and gave her such a look of complicity and sheer fun. I know it took forever, but that was the day I had a full love attack for Stephen Colbert. (oh, and kudos to Jane Fonda. She knows her stuff)

  • Stephen Colbert

is the best choice for sexiest man living 2006.

    I concur.

  • Aaron Eckhart - my nomination

He was the boyfriend of Julia Roberts in the movie ERIN BROKOVICH. Remember him???

  • sexy men

Im 21 years old and my friends have always thought that I was crazy for trying to convince them that Alan Rickman was drop dead sexy. My three favorite men- Alan, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert are on the list, much to my excitement. I always wondered whether I was the only one watching them at one in the morning thinking yum!

Now add Ewan Mcgregor, Colin Firth, and Johnny Depp to the list and you've got it.

  • Late to the party...

...but am thrilled to come anyway and see SUFJAN STEVENS on this list! The only dissapointing thing was his complete lack of mention in the comments. The vast majority of Salon readers must be both blind and deaf to have missed him!

BOTH my husband and myself have a huge thing for the Suf. He's exquisitely and in equal parts talented and gorgeous. And that part about "Yes, we know, he's a deeply religious Christian, but come on--the challenge of seduction just adds to the allure!" is so dead on, haha.

One quibble though: doesn't "piercing" sort of negate "dreamy" when describing his eyes?
