The sexiest man living!

Forget that other list. We pick the men who really set our hearts aflame -- and there's nary a pretty-boy actor among them.

The letters thread is now closed.

Late to the party...

...but am thrilled to come anyway and see SUFJAN STEVENS on this list! The only dissapointing thing was his complete lack of mention in the comments. The vast majority of Salon readers must be both blind and deaf to have missed him!

BOTH my husband and myself have a huge thing for the Suf. He's exquisitely and in equal parts talented and gorgeous. And that part about "Yes, we know, he's a deeply religious Christian, but come on--the challenge of seduction just adds to the allure!" is so dead on, haha.

One quibble though: doesn't "piercing" sort of negate "dreamy" when describing his eyes?

sexy men

Im 21 years old and my friends have always thought that I was crazy for trying to convince them that Alan Rickman was drop dead sexy. My three favorite men- Alan, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert are on the list, much to my excitement. I always wondered whether I was the only one watching them at one in the morning thinking yum!

Now add Ewan Mcgregor, Colin Firth, and Johnny Depp to the list and you've got it.

Aaron Eckhart - my nomination

What about when Jane Fonda kissed Colbert???

I realized I have a massive crush on Colbert very recently. It had been building up all along, since I started watching his video clips on Youtube and the comedy central site. (I live in Brazil). First of all, I love men that make me laugh, period. But then I saw his amazing stint at the White House press dinner, staring Bush in the face and I thought, wow, my hero. Some girls on the Thank you Stephen Colbert blog said they wanted to have his baby, but it had not dawned on me that I did too. And then I saw his clip with Fonda and Steinem. His reaction to Fonda´s kisses completed the picture. He was surprised, flattered, turned on, and gave her such a look of complicity and sheer fun. I know it took forever, but that was the day I had a full love attack for Stephen Colbert. (oh, and kudos to Jane Fonda. She knows her stuff)

I'm not sure why, but I'm a bit sad

See, I've had a crush on Alton Brown and Jon Stewart for ages; Colbert I fell madly in love with two or three months ago. Quite an achievement, I think, considering that here in Manila, they only started showing "Good Eats" and "Iron Chef America" recently, for years "The Daily Show" only showed once a week on CNN, and they still don't air "The Colbert Report." I went mad for the bits and pieces of Alton, Jon and Stephen that I saw. I guess their being ignored over here led me to believe that perhaps people didn't pay much attention to them anywhere. For a while I was even under the impression that "Good Eats" was a terribly unsuccessful show, as they only ever ran the same three episodes week after week on this one crappy cable station here. As "Iron Chef" wasn't showing yet, I felt sorry for poor unemployed Alton--I had to go online to discover that DVD's of his show's many seasons were on sale on Amazon. Point is--for the longest time, I thought I was the only woman with enough sense to see how heart-stoppingly beautiful these boys were, and clearly, I was wrong!

I mean, enough of a consensus was formed among Salon's editors to get them on a hotties list! Well. I also must say that I'm QUITE surprised at Colbert's many, many fangirls, who drool over him on YouTube and ColberNation etc. But ok...I'll share.

Aside from the three, I'm also a fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, Richard Dawkins, Surfjan Stevens. And Noah Baumbach! Arrrgh. I've loved him since "Kicking and Screaming!" Very impressive, girls. I swear I've never felt so proprietary about a list in my life.

Daniel Craig

I just saw Casino Royale and Daniel Craig is perfect in it. He is extremely hot not because he's a pretty boy but because of his intensity. He was just voted World's Sexiest Man. Of course he has a body that won't quit, charm and intelligence also.

Sexiest Man Alive

Hey Salon Editors,

My letter (choosing Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman as a couple of the sexiest guys around) earned me a big red happy star. Hurray! I immediately displayed it on my refrigerator.

But today I noticed my "Super Job" star disappeared. Was I caught chewing gum or something? Or did Denzel and Gene suddenly become less sexy during the past 48 hours?

Thanks a bunch-how am I supposed to explain this star retraction to my family?

And during the holidays no less!

So for THAT, I'm nominating Howard Stearn as the Sexiest Guy Alive. Now excuse me while I go clear off my refigerator before the family arrives.

Is it too soon?

Daniel Craig a.k.a. Botticelli Bond (accdg to Salon's very own Stephanie Zacharek)

Tuesday, November 21, 2006 03:14 PM

well, while we're on the rockstar kick...

Happy to see anon. getting all pitter pat over these guys

Lou Reed

David Bowie

Jackson Browne

from her HS days. to that list, I pass over Andy Gibb, David Cassidy, and Peter Frampton but add:

Stephen Stills (circa 1970, sigh -- yes, even with the missing teeth)

Peter Gabriel (circa 1972, but still hot today AND doing decent things in the world)

Neil Young (undeniably cool and throws that great Bridge benefit each year)

Ray Lamontagne (swoontastic; writes great songs too)

the entire cast of "Velvet Goldmine" (in costume of course)

as well as Jake and Heath in "Brokeback" (melt)

OK, now I can put my panties back on. Thanks for the interlude, Salon.
