Didn't they used to show clips of the foreign films that were nominated? This year they were treated like a minor technical award. And the presenter--Will Smith I believe--attempted some lame jokes about foreign languages that were, frankly, insulting. (So much for "diversity.") Couldn't they have chosen an "international" presenter? After all, some of them even speak English. Camille Paglia picked up on this American provincialism during the podcast but was drowned out by the screechy Cintra babbling on about something. You don't have to read the trades to know that foreign income is becoming a BIG part of Hollywood's financial calculations. All the more stunning that the Academy Awards couldn't be bothered to acknowledge, even minimally, global audiences.
