Bad santas

John Cusack and Harold Ramis talk about making movies without selling your soul -- or dressing up -- and their very dark holiday comedy.

Cusack not a sell out?

John Cusack?

Please, give us a break; you're trying to turn him into some sort of intellectual heavyweight defending the sanctity of the art form.

This is the guy who wouldn't take the role offered him in his film coming out next year, (The Martian Child), about a single man adopting a child-- unless the script was changed to give the character a girlfriend. He needs everyone to know that he's NOT gay, as the character is in the book it's based on.

He seems to me more like an insecure relic of old hollywood machismo.

For fans only

John Cusack plays the same shuffling soul in every film, but I happen to like his dark humor and wry characters. Harold Ramis is always sharp of wit, and between Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day he's got my loyalty for some time.

Please. Enough with the half-hearted Cusack bashing.

This will be a decent film for those who already like Cusack and Ramis, and will probably be just dull for those who don't. Whether or not Cusack and Ramis realize it, they've cultivated a following, and that following are the only people likely to watch this new film.

Thank god I'm one of those people.

The play's the thing

Krystalex, I agree. Judging an artist's work by what he supposedly does outside of it... no way. Beethoven reportedly treated women horribly. Does that stop me from loving the Ninth Symphony, or make it worthless? Hardly. An artist should be judged on his work, and Cusack's has been consistently interesting, at the very least.

Of course, that doesn't prove he's a nice person, but then I don't know the guy, so I can't judge that part.
