Joel Surnow is an arrogant pig and deserves to be boycotted by all decent Americans

The torture experts tell him torture doesn't work, but he refuses to believe them, because his romantic imagination tells him otherwise.

I think it's time for nationwide boycott of this lying toxic crap, and everything else this delusional toxic man produces.

"Died mysteriously"

Yeah like if you let go of a bowling ball it mysteriously falls to the floor.

My bet is death brought on by a combination of the flu, enlarged heart, OTC cold medication and 2 or 3 counterindicated prescription drugs. Basically the jackpot. BTW what does a 39 year old woman need a personal nurse for? Especially one who's so bad at her job?

On the one end of the spectrum we have Mariska Hargitay who was in the back seat of the car when her mother, Jane Mansfield was decapitated. She went on to what appears to be a successful career and an entirely normal and happy life. At the other end of the spectrum we have Anna Nicole who despite being handed every boost up and despite having absolutely nothing to bring to the table otherwise spend a decade spiraling into the toilet. Instead of moaning about inevitable accidents why don't we celebrate normalcy once in a while?

Surnow just summarized what's wrong with the right

Experts tell him what's wrong with what he's doing but because it doesn't fit his worldview he blows them off. Modus operandi for the entire right wing.

If torture worked, there would be no Christianity

Rome enforced all of its boundaries -- geographic, social, economic and religious -- with torture.

The reason why the emerging Christ-sect attracted so many Roman followers is because members of the Christ-sect showed that even the most vile, degrading and painful public tortures did not work on THEM.

When we torture Islamic extremists, we are forgetting our own history, and that's an invitation to a karmic upbraiding of a very serious degree.

Come on

No flash no style, no substance, too short, please improve this...how about hire a comedy writer to write the newsbits...alla Jon Stewart.. instead of this cut and paste...term paper from my 9 year old....ever heard of Bill Dawes...course it might cost 250/450 a day.

probably not worth it...at least put some abortion, anti-woman, anti-male, anti-abortion, anti-Liberal, Jesus-freak hyphenated-offensive stuff in there to get the letters moving...

I would troll for you...but even I - occasionally - must work....for about 30 minutes.

SR get your fact right you Republican fear monger

""{Although Mansfield's actual mode of death was gruesome, she was not beheaded. According to the police report on the accident, "the upper portion of this white female's head was severed." Her death certificate notes a "crushed skull with avulsion (forcible separation or detachment) of cranium and brain." One thinks of a beheading as the neck's being sliced through, causing the head to be separated from the body, but that is clearly not what happened here. Scalping is perhaps a closer description of Mansfield's fate, but even that word does not accurately reflect the cranial trauma she suffered, because scalping victims at least retain an intact skull. The Angel of Death did not afford Mansfield this luxury: Her skull was cracked or sliced open, and a sizeable piece of it was carried away. ""

Where in there is there something that sounds even remotely like, winning the war.

Five minutes?

"They say torture doesn't work. But I don't believe that. I don't think it's honest to say that if someone you love was being held, and you had five minutes to save them, you wouldn't do it. Tell me, what would you do? If someone had one of my children, or my wife, I would hope I'd do it."

Does this fool not realize that if you have five minutes to extract the information, all your hypothetical torture victim has to do is hold out for six?

Oh, wait, he's a fan of "comedian Rush Limbaugh" - that explains a lot, now, doesn't it?

And on another topic, who on earth thinks Sacha Baron Cohen is going to be able to do another "Borat" after the first one? Who has not heard of the character by now?

It Doesn't Work

They say torture doesn't work. But I don't believe that. I don't think it's honest to say that if someone you love was being held, and you had five minutes to save them, you wouldn't do it. Tell me, what would you do? If someone had one of my children, or my wife, I would hope I'd do it.

So, if you had five minutes to rescue your family, you'd use a technique that doesn't work? Niiice. Have you told your family how little they mean to you?

The artist doesn't determine the reception of the art

I know that Joel Surnow is wrong in his politics, his philosophy, his worldview, his friendships, and even his facts. I don't care. Despite his best efforts, "24" is still a great television show.

Just to Get Aesthetic About It

I gotta disagree w/ you Dave. I've found it to be predictable and cliched, two things that kill the very suspense so essential to a good espiogage drama. While some friends of mine who are big fans of show tell me that I really need to watch it from the start to understand it, I was able to understand it all too well, so well that I was "preciting" the dialogue of new shows.

But I won't hold it against you. I'm totally addicted to "Prison Break."

On a lighter note...

Two of those ice cream flavors were way off. Mr. Colbert would never sign off on FRENCH vanilla. It would have to be Freedom Vanilla or something.

The New and Not Improved 'The Fix'

I think it's a shame that The Fix is now getting significantly more space, but it's apparently cut out "Money Quote", which was the one thing that I liked to check out every day. (At least it hasnt't been in the last three days.) Instead we get celebrity kind-of-look-alike pictures? Augh!

Urban myth alert

Maynesfield was not decapitated.

Though I have been thinking about her, and her incredibly talented (and mentally healthy) daughter, an awful lot today, too.

Money Quote...

S.J.Smith - tho no longer labeled, the Money Quote is in a little blue box toward the bottom, eh?

Today's was Peter O'Toole's take on Hollywood actresses.
