"Clinton's rage is terrifying to behold."
Did you even watch the interview? The idea that Clinton "exploded" or that his "rage" was "terryifying" indicates to me you clearly did not.
What that interview showed was a former president who regrets he didn't get bin Laden, but not because he didn't try -- repeatedly. It also showed he is not going to let the other side spread lies about his administration's actions or its own leaders' inaction.
The only thing that is "exploding" is my head from all the right-wing spin that's being spread on this.
There was no rage in Clinton. He calmly went about destroying Wallace and the Fox/GOP talking points. The only times he had to raise his voice a little bit was when Wallace was trying to interrupt him and cut him off, which is the tactic of almost all wingnut pundits, and which Wallace did repeatedly. Clinton was good and thorough. It was nice to see a Democrat with a backbone again. I hope others were taking notes.
I’m 60 years old and I damn near died, and I’m worried about how many lives I can save before I do die.
Well Peter McWilliams DID die. He died in federal custody.
He puked his guts out in court. The bailiff had to bring him a trash can to hold his vomit. There he was puking his guts out in court, while you and your people were claiming it's just a big fat lie that marijuana can stop nausea.
Peter died of a heart attack from the stress of constant vomiting. If he tested positive for pot even once, your henchman would have taken away his elderly mother's home.
Too bad you didn't get your heart attack then.
You might have woken up and decided to save HIS life by letting him use the medicine that helped him keep his AIDS medications down.
But that also would have meant you'd have to admit you were wrong to oppose medical marijuana. So of course you couldn't save Peter's life.
Peter had to die to protect your political agenda.
If you're feeling any remorse about that, now would be good a time to mend some fences.
Prove you're not the callous manipulator you looked like when you were killing a sick man to prove your wrong policy was actually right.
What a fat line of B.S. to be getting from Salon, of all places. You should be ashamed of yourself. What, you need to overdramatize things to get people to read the pap in this column? I'd expected this distortion from the right wing, not from Salon. I strongly suggest, in the interest of journalistic integrity (remember that?) that you pull this baloney and try again with a description of the actual bitchslapping, which Clinton performed admirably. If you didn't watch the interview, you shouldn't be writing about it. If you did watch it, you should be accurate in what you're saying. Really lame!
I totally agree with the anonymous poster. I heard a local tv reported talk about how Clinton "lashed out" and "grew increasingly angry" at Wallace, and he did get mad, but he didn't lose control. Instead, Clinton admits that he's upset but remains completely articulate, thorough and credible throughout the entire interview. It is inspiring - and a relief - to see a leader who actually appears smart, who can admit that he did his best but failed, who has his facts straight, who can actually speak and who has the balls to defend himself in today's media climate. I mean, what kind of message does the media reaction to Clinton send to other politicians? Heaven forbid someone else challenges a Fox News reporter.
I watched Fox's interview between Wallace and Clinton, and did not see Clinton as some raging, frothing at the mouth crazy man. I saw a President make some counterpoint assertions about Republican lies and talking points with intelligence and intensity. I saw Chris Wallace lose his focus in the interview because Clinton would not back down on answering Wallace's questions with extensive followthrough.
The Fix's writer's Republican stripes are showing.
What do you mean by "Clinton in his rage is terrifying to behold?" are you still afraid of Howard Dean for trying to change the democratic party too? If you word reports of people standing up for themselves against what has proven to be a sneaky and evil enemy (the right wing lackies) you are just perpetuating the system so firmly in place. I watched the tape, read the transcript and have now seen headlines blowing it way out of proportion for the sake of drama and good copy. Get over it, he was annoyed, stuck up for himself and did what any regular intelligent guy would do when confronted by an a-hole who was trying to push his agenda on him for the sake of a soundbite. He admitted fault and told Matthews to read Richard Clarke's book. Is that so wrong? I'm glad you are an entertainment writer instead of someone actually trying to change the system but I'm very disappointed that you would take the opportunity to spin a serious democratic defense into an "explosion." Keep in mind that yours is the only column some people will read about this incident and now they think that Clinton was "terrifying." Way to do the right wings job.
Clinton in his rage is terrifying to behold.
Poor Mr. Lamb. Were you truly terrified by former president Clinton's forceful and deliberate dressing down of Chris Wallace during the Fox News Sunday interview? Delicate lamb, have you no tolerance for the expression of emotion and emotional expression?
Why, wooly one, would you react with terror at such righteous indignation and standing up to the passive-aggressive inuendo and bullying of the likes of Chris Wallace? Does the lamb identify with the wolf? Did you think that scary Mr. Clinton was going to gobble up Wallace? Why all he did was take Wallace seriously and at his word; "why didn't you do more?" The bully never wants to be taken seriously; the passive-aggressive always seeks to have the out of "don't take it so seriously, you'll terrify the lambs."
Did you identify, dear lamb, with the affronted Mr. Wallace? To see in Clinton's self-assured honesty a terrifying (and worse, a distasteful, unbecoming) rage certainly seems to come right out of the Fox News play book. Oh, lamb, unreflective creature, throw off the shackles of your terror! Go not quietly to your slaughter, little lamb.
Good luck.
