  • the perfect double feature:

Passion of the Christ and Triumph of the Will.

Poor Mel. How long before he's arrested for blowing George Michael in a public park?

  • Dear Lindsay

Welcome to being a grown up. Too bad your mom failed in her responsibilities when raising you.

If you're lucky, you'll learn something and realize that when you've made a commitment to others, especially to others whose financial well-being is dependent upon that commitment, you show up for work on time and ready to go. Nothing wrong with partying, but when it affects your work and costs other people money, it's time to take a break.

The movie will wrap soon enough -- sooner if you do your job responsibly and professionally -- and then you can party all you want, at least until you make your next commitment.

    > Poor Mel. How long before he's arrested for blowing George Michael in a public park?

I first read that as "How long before he's arrested for blowing up George Michael in a public park?"

Which I think would be much more entertaining. Maybe a South Park episode....

  • Yawn

Let's see-- Roman Polanski fled abroad after raping a child-- Hollywood voted him an Oscar. Do you believe they need to punish Mel Gibson for saying something while he was drunk?

  • Gibson's Anti-Semitism Let Us Count the Ways

Let's see....make a movie that blames the Jews for Jesus' death....check! Change subtitles of that movie to remove anti-semitism, while leaving the slurs in original language...check! Dad's a Holocaust denier...check! Rambling anti-Jew speech during DUI arrest....check!

What further evidence do we need?

Oh wait, we were supposed to feel sorry for Mel that his old senile dad said some ebarrassing things about Jews. Um...no. Gibson Sr. has been a denier for years, and Gibby Jr. never distanced himself for those views.

And oh, about that alcoholism thing...Not a good enough excuse. I've been drunk before and oddly enough, the first words out of my mouth weren't "jews start all wars". And strangely enough, none of the drunks I know start spitting out anti-semetic trash....Are they not drinking the anti-jew truth serum Mel gets off on? Sometimes a little alcohol makes us reveal ourselves too much. As in, we start saying what we mean. Sound familiar Mel?

Course if he is shunned he'll only become an even bigger hero to Christian-facists and the Fox-news loving apologists. At least he still owns the rights to O'Reily's porno novels.

  • this is a joke right?

The man was drunk, in his car. Apparently he said something against the jews. So what? He was not on a public platform, he said anti-semitic things: so he's an anti-semite. What's the problem? Do you want to start brainwashing people now so that racism will stop existingin the States? Hands up all those who did not know Gibson had anti-semitic feelings! Get on with it. I don't like the guy, but this pilloring and public crucifixion is extremely distatsteful and worrying. and I sense that some people were just waiting in the wings for their moment of revenge. Well go ahead and make a martyr of him and watch the other anti-semites have another reason to hate Jews and to support Gibson by going to see his movie. Hang on, i just got it. for je Passion of the Christ Gibson brought out a rumour that the film was anti-semitic, for his new south American movie he's started a scandal about him being anti-semitic. Good marketing boyo!

  • I bet he ends up with jail time

Sometimes in the entertainment industry people get caught up in the emotion of the moment and they leave a party after having one drink too many and one appetizer too few. And they end up driving drunk through lack of attention rather than intent.

But it looks from the report like Gibson was driving around Malibu drinking from a bottle of tequila. That looks like highly intentional drunk driving. And it also looks like something an alcoholic would do.

I'll bet he ends up with jail time and court-ordered rehab.

  • i'm counting

    >>Let's see....make a movie that blames the Jews for Jesus' death....check! Change subtitles of that movie to remove anti-semitism, while leaving the slurs in original language...check! Dad's a Holocaust denier...check! Rambling anti-Jew speech during DUI arrest....check.

Ummm... i believe that the jews in power conspired to have Jesus arrested and killed, and to that end He was turned over to pontius pilate, then crucified. what was said, was said in the gospels. does that make mel gibson anti-semitic? does that make me anti-semitic? are all christians anti-semitic for believing the truth?

i do not know what mel gibson's father has to do with mg's arrest, but obviously you think you do. you must be a big supporter of those totalitarian regimes where children have to denounce their parents if they are in error. i don't agree with that. i believe the Bible. i believe each man's sins are his own.

shame on mel gibson for driving under the influence. God will judge his heart. but he has taken responsibility for his words and his actions, and he has apologized. if you are so perfect, cast your own stone.

as for me, i am still awaiting the apology the adl has owed me since the passion.

  • How Long Before Mel's Lawyers Blame Ambien?

I'm surprised they haven't already. He's not being represented by the best, apparently, because blaming Ambien is a surefire excuse.

  • re: i'm counting

MG has taken responsibility for his words and actions? Did we read the same statement?

He may have acknowledged his drinking problem. He has yet to address his Jew-hating problem. If he blames the bottle for his rants (I don't really believe that Jews are destroying the world- it's the tequila talking!) then he's not anywhere close to taking responsibility.

That said, I believe the man's entitled to his opinion. But let's not make any mistake about it- if it wasn't crystal clear from his last movie, he's a vicious anti-Semite. I can only hope that moviegoers will have the sense to avoid his future projects.

  • sticks or beams in this case and stones

    >>Ummm... i believe that the jews in power conspired to have Jesus arrested and killed, and to that end He was turned over to pontius pilate, then crucified. what was said, was said in the gospels. does that make mel gibson anti-semitic? does that make me anti-semitic? are all christians anti-semitic for believing the truth?

You might want to broaden your mind a little bit more bee before you start defending others.

For example- if you believe that the sacrifice on the cross is what redeems mankind from sin then isn't it possible that the so called 'Jews' who 'conspired' along with Pilate and Judas were enacting God's will, so where is the fault. No Judas, no Jews, no Pilate, no crucifixion, no redemption of man.

Truth? Want the truth; take a look for Bart D. Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus" or "Lost Christianities". Ehrman started off as a reborn Christian, became evangelical for a spell and went to several "approved" schools of 'right thinking Christians' like yourself. In the course of his studies learned Latin, Greek and other languages to read the "truth" as it was written. And to what avail did it come? He realized that the beloved book is littered with forgeries in some cases, that the Gospels were changed by scribes copying, sometimes by accident and sometimes intentionally. Not to mention the many varieties of early Christianity that were put down by what later evolved into the Church.

So before you start justifying Gibson's anti-semitism with words like truth and the gospels, pluck the beam out of your own eye.

And finally, the beloved cast no stone bit was added to John centuries later and the 'truth' that it was not in the original gospel is accepted by most biblical scholars.
