The Fix

Strange sculpture celebrates Spears pregnancy. Spurlock and Smith spark school scandals. Plus: How many lovers has Streisand had, anyway?

The letters thread is now closed.

I related to the woman

whom felt she was a slave to the corporate Masters...I was about to quit my job - then - I saw the Brittany statue and was instantly emasculated, left without the passions of my groin, my fluttering addiction to life ebbed...I basked in the comfort of my dull job, addicted to my corporate internet connection - then - with little hope left, my fantasies all but wisps of moisture (urea like substance, at least) on my gravestone - I was struck anew with hope - Natalie Portman is convinced I am a prostitute - that made my nipples hard. "Now I am happy" thought I...

I'd like to thank Natalie, Brittany, Salon and the Acadamey for continuing to feed my narcissistic tenor...

Ah, I feel Ima hole again.

Chef and South Park

Did Isaac Hayes jump, or was he pushed? Whatever -- the creators of South Park have now given us a mantra to chant when the scientology craziness gets to be too much for us:

"Fruity Little Club..."

"Fruity Little Club..."

"Fruity Little Club..."

Don't underestimate that sculpture

In 2001, a sculpture done by Jeff Koons of Michael Jackson lying down with his arm around his chimp Bubbles sold at Sotheby's in New York for $5,616,750. To date, it's the most a sculpture has ever sold in the world.

reese witherspoon

kevin smith has a long standing grudge against reese witherspoon because he thought she was an idiot, she obviously caught on to that, was "rude" to his girlfriend (joey lauren adams--great actress) and then said nasty things about his work (and i guess much more). with this, i assume that he never done anything rude or nasty to anyone when he was younger--or even now.

i think that i've been a jerk in the last five years once or twice or maybe even four or ten times. in most cases, people let me know if i'm being a jerk. it certainly helps me get my head on straight. i'm still a good person though. i just made bad choices in my behavior. but then again, i'm allowed to do this and then deal with the consequences.

it's immature and inappropriate to shout your anger into a microphone at a college so that you can some how summons a one-up on a person who made a poor decision.

both of them are excellent at what they do. they should apologize and make a movie together. that would be awesome!

Oh, PLEASE

If Kevin Smith actually does hate Reese Witherspoon, don't you think there would some reason for it that we - who don't KNOW either of them - wouldn't be in a position to know about??

And Natalie Portman was NOT referring to every woman who works, she was referring to women who work as actresses.

Get a grip, people.

I've always suspected...

... that Kevin Smith is an idiot, but this latest quote proves it.

Kevin Smith and no one blinks an eye

Jump all over Natalie Portman but no one comments on Kevin Smith's attack on Reese Witherspoon. What a sexist fuck up. Women are attacked right and left - if you can't do it physically you just get by doing it verbally! Shame, shame, shame on the little nopecker.

So most of us are prostitutes?

There's a single mom out there who works 1 or more crappy jobs so that she has enough cash to feed, clothe and shelter her kids. According to Natalie Portman, because this woman is putting her (& her family's) financial needs first, she - the single mom - is a PROSTITUTE.

Good grief. Yet another spoilt, pampered, rich white girl - one who can afford to work only jobs she is passionate about (and still earn MILLIONS of dollars while at it) - decides to cast scorn on the unwashed masses who work jobs so that they don't get evicted from their homes, go starving on the streets, etc.

Yes, Natalie - we would all like to work jobs that indulge our interests and passions. But, the brutal reality (something you would know nothing about) is that, at least for the time being, many decent folk have to perform dead-end occupations....at least in part so that they can fund their passions! (If not for outright survival)

Please, rich Americans - try to get a grip on reality before you open your mouths. Otherwise, just keep 'em shut and bask in your affluence. The rest of us have work to do.

I've always suspected...

... that Natalie Portman is an idiot, but this latest quote proves it. And if she doesn't choose films for the money, why did she do those crappy Star Wars prequals--for their artistic value?

I'm a prostitute

Not a rhetorical question: Is Natalie Portman an idiot?

People do give birth in that position. Just not on a bearskin rug stroking the bear's ears with a blissful expression.

They could only be mocking her C section

Britney Spears did not deliver her son vaginally. She had a C section at UCLA Medical Center.

That sculpture doesn't sound like a celebration at all.

It sounds like a vicious and horrible way to mock a famous woman for choosing a C section over a vaginal birth.

Capla sounds like a mean heartless prick in love with his own cleverness.

Spears sculpture

I think this sculpture supports the case that anti-abortion people are really anti-sex. I haven't actually seen the dorsal view of the sculpture, but just the thought of walking into my living room and looking down the business end of Britney Spears with a BABY coming out haunts me, and not in a good way. One look at that and I don't think I'd be able to have sex for a week.

Even though Joel Surnow's right-wing politics put him out of touch with mainstream America (read any good poll numbers recently, Joel?), he's made some interesting creative choices. I'd very much like to know what inspired his show's direction this season, which features, among other things, an idiot puppet President being usurped and manipulated by an evil Vice President. It's bizarre enough that we get more reality from Fox's 24 than we do from Fox News, but what in the world is an avowed right-winger doing producing this stuff? Trying to get those ratings numbers from mainstream America, perhaps?
