    Airplane

I was in Haight-Ashbury from April until August of 67 and saw many of the bands whose legend has outstripped the reality of the day. I once saw Big Brother and the Holding Company at the Avalon. They were the worst, ever. It was hard to believe that Janis went on to such glory...

In my opinion the Airplane was THE best band of the times. They did a show in the Panhandle that still stands out as the best live performance of the summer.

I am now a 58 year-old who spends a lot of time banging on my guitar and Somebody to Love is one of my regular songs. I would also highly reccommend Surrealistic Pillow as one of the best albums of the era.
