Yes!
Not a bad song, but oddly restrained. But catchy.
I enjoyed half of the New Pornographers album from late 2000, Mass Romantic, but most of this band's output, while sounding very nice, is incredibly mediocre, in my opinion. Very nice sounding with very unmemorable songs. The continual praise of this band is endemic of the indie community's inability to distinguish the great from the pretty good.
The funny thing is that, while I agree that the New Pornographers are sometimes great but mostly average, AC Newman's solo album from 2004 The Slow Wonder, was really, really, really great and flew right under the radar. Only the single "Miracle Drug" got any play, and the rest of the album was much deeper and more subtley brilliant.
I think the NPs suffer from not being the main focus for any their members.
OK, so I lived in Vancouver for 20 years and was there for the birth of this band. Call me biased, or just plain lucky, but AC Newman is this generation's Brian Wilson. I just LOVE this track, and I'm sure I'll love the album. Hear Neko's soft warbling in the background. The understated, but relentless guitars and rhythm section... Aaahhh!! The perfect summer band gifts us with an August album, and hopefully a tour...
