I've always thought that the Stones were the most effective when they tapped into their own menacing nature, but it's always become a little bit easy for them to get campy about it. "Gimme Shelter" still doesn't lose its power after all these years, nor does "Shattered", for my money.
Give Patti credtit for re-recording a signature song, and at this stage of her career. Would it have been as big a hit if she had originally performed it?
Either way, glad the ol' gal's back and rockin' still.
