while i understand the longing for back to basics wilco, I think that its unfair to dismiss thier electronic and sonic experimentation on a Ghost is Born and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I'm sure im not the only one who thinks that those two albums, especially a ghost is born, are rock and roll classics and in fact the product of a bands evolution rather than simple experimentations in noise making. Personally I think that those two stand out as nearly perfect combinations of country, indie rock, and sonic texturing.
Check out Impossibly Germany from Sky Blue Sky at hypem.com/track/261258. I think a melodic CD this may be.
Any reason this is a .zip file instead of just an .mp3?
Wilco's last two albums are classics. They broke new ground, unlike this single, which reminds me of when Phish came out with "Farmhouse." If this is what the rest of the album is going to sound like, I wish Jeff Tweedy would get back into some sort of soul-destroying addiction. His song writing was definitely better before.
They played Impossible Germany when they came through San Antonio last October. I thought it was really pretty then. Awesome show.
I constantly go back and forth on what is my favorite Wilco album, but I generally love them all, mainly because they're all different. I'd not be as big of a Wilco fan as I am if every album sounded the same.
Sky Blue Sky indeed follows the tempate of "What Light". The albums makes clear creative choices to eschew the experimental flourishes so central to the last two albums. At first listen the songs feel painfully traditional, even, as some have mentioned, "easy listening" but there is an intimacy to the songs that demand less noise.
For those who have heard the record I'm curious on your thoughts.
