Can we stop being juveniles? What she said is also being said by every political pundit on television in America but coming out of her mouth its racist? Why isn't Russert, Stephanopolous, Matthews, Blitzer being racist when they question whether Obama can connect to white voters? When Bill Clinton compared Obama to Jesse Jackson who is a hero in the African American community he is a racist? When she points out quite accurately that whites support her campaign, she is a racist? Obama can't even go to a black church or talk about his white grandmother's fear of black men without the media calling him a racist. The funny thing is tonight I saw Dick Morris, he of the Jesse Helms black hands campaign calling Hillary Clinton a race baiter. This is obscene. We are all grown ups and everyone realizes race and sex has played a part in this campaign. But saying the obvious about your demographics doesn't make you a racist. I can't wait to see the media hold the GOP to the same standard as they held the Democrats but don't hold your breath.
The only thing that is obvious is that many of the people on this blog are avowed Clinton haters who even though Obama has sewed up the nomination and his reached the pinnacle of his career can't focus on McCain or refrain from kicking Hillary Clinton who whatever her motives are is clearly no longer a threat to their candidate. You'd swear they were GOP trolls not Democrats based on their determined insistence on stirring up the hate between Obama and Clinton supporters.
I once saw a documentary on Bosnia that had a Serb and Croat woman, who had been friends their entire lives talk about the war. These women swore that nothing could destroy their ifetime of friendship and that nothing not even war could ever tear them apart. But a year or so later, the two lifelong friends were at each other throats, their friendship lost forever and their grievances split entirely on racial lines. Joe you forgot to add that the African -American community showing nobility and grace forgave George Wallace for his sins and eventually they made their peace. I begining to think that Bill and Hillary Clinton will not be so lucky and blessed.
We have a historic first. The first black candidate to win the nomination of a political party and 99.9% of the coverage is on his defeated white opponent. Ask yourself why is this? Is there any reason for the media's continued obssession as to when she Hillary will stop campaigning (she has repeatedly said after the June 4th primary), whether she will be on the ticket as the Vice President (the answer is HELL no) and what she will do after loosing the nomination (she has a Senate seat - duh). We keep hearing, Hillary give it up, you have no pride or dignity, actually its the media who need to give it up.
Joan shouldn't you be giving this lecture to your peers in the media. They are the ones writing off the votes of the people of West Virginia and their primary as meaningless. They are the ones claiming racism as the reason Obama didn't win the state. It never occurs to them that people could look at the issues and policies and actually choose McCain or Clinton over Obama based on their own interest. The media is fond of inferences and the inference people are getting is if you dont vote for Obama you are either an uneducated hick or a racist. Every day I see the media telling people this race is over even though Obama has yet to cross the finish line. He is clearly the favorite but we have endured weeks of the media saying he has won - get out Hillary. The media is not respecting the process and is perceived by many as injecting themselves in the narrative. You are seeing the backlash and it is doing Obama no favors.
It was clear that Hillary Clinton, a middle aged woman in her sixties was making an ill advised reference to a very real and important period in her political life when she made the reference to Robert Kennedy. It is a hisorical fact, that during the summer of 1968 Humphrey was pretty much written off as the nominee. She was not hoping for Obama'a assasination or dancing on his grave. I suspect she measures important events in her political life by 1968, much as I measure important events in my life by the Challenger disaster, my parents measure it by Pearl Harbor and another generation will use 911. Its amazing how Obama supporters need inferences, code words, telepathy to discern the always nefarious motives of their opponents. This paranoia, whether real or imaginary does him no great favor even if the liberal press is the messenger. If I see one more outraged Keith Olberman pro Obama special comment I will scream. The country will not want to spend the next four years in rhetorical debates about what can be said or not said believe me.
And the Obama campaign circulating memoranda to media highlighting the racist code words used by the Clinton's did not pour gasoline on the fire. Threatning riots isn't playing the race card. This claim of the Obama people for purity while all their enemies are evil is going to come back to haunt them. Remember everyone you step on to get to the top while be there waiting for you with knives on the inevitable way down. You should take Hillary's current struggles as a warning.
