Sorry Ceytron but democracy is a messy affair. It think its great that the South, an area of the country that has long repudiated the Democratic party is for once not choosing its nominee. I think its great that people who actually support the Democratic party might actually have a say in who is the candidate. Even, if the Democrats had a nominee at this point the media cabal, Will, Brooks, Fox News, Kristol would only be attacking the individual so much earlier. In case you haven't noticed they are in the tank for McCain. No amount of money can silence the right wing when it comes to the perceived shortcomings of Obama and Clinton, so lets not buy into the media, they hate it each other and will destroy the party rantings. Two historic firsts have happened in the Democratic party, an African American nominee or a woman nominee. One will loose, but we can look at this time and say - this could only have happened in the Democratic party.
Joan, Obama is doing what any front runner would do, play it safe, run out the clock, not get into any debates or have any articles where his words can be twisted and create a media uproar so I don't blame him for that. But what does it say about him, his lack of audacity, his lack of confidence? He is the front runner. Obama shut down repeats of the Florida and Michigan primaries frankly because he thought he would loose. Was it hardball good politics are an audacity of hope? His supporters attack ABC News because he got asked tough personal questions, but it was the lack of specificity to tough policy questions that did him in at the last debate. He himself resented it and continues to resent it like how dare you ask me this, I'm Obama? His supporters seem to believe any question that he can't answer is off limits or petty politics. He talks about change, the new politics but plays the dirt game as well as anyone as you well know. Early on journalist noticed Bush Juniors curious lack of interest in the outside world but they brushed it aside, he had his dad. I know everyone thinks Obama's problems are solely due to race, but I think the public sees his contradictions and are calling him on it unlike the media.
I am watching Karl Rove on Fox News discuss Obama's Reverend Wright situation and something is very clear. Karl Rove pointed out that everything Wright said at the National Press Club had been said by the Reverend multiple times before in the church and in different forums. Oppo research folks! This is not going away folks.
I keep hearing that Joan Walsh favors Hillary Clinton. Even if she does move on Obama people. Glen Greenwald clearly favors Obama as well as several other Salon columnists. She is an opiinion writer. Different strokes for different folks. This constant need to tear down anyone who doesn't support your guy isn't helping him in the long run. Its a big turnoff to a lot of people and is just what McCain wants.
Do you not find it striking that the GOP Congress which never saw a tax cut it didn't like isn't jumping on the tax free holiday barn wagon? Why the news media suddenly overnight began to care about the opinion of economists? Why helping taxpayers who are putting $70 in their gas tank every fill up is suddenly outrageous? Why Mr. Obama is so vociferous against it? I couldn't figure it out until this morning watching television. The gas tax holiday requires some minimal oversight of the oil industry to be effective. President Obama who already is very cozy with the nuclear energy industry is going to be make George W. Bush look like a card carrying member of the Sierra Club, mark my words.
Obama becomes the Democratic nominee tonight take it to the bank.
Whether Operation Chaos is real or not, it definately shows why open primaries should be abolished. Republicans should not influence who Democrats pick as their nominee and Democrats shouldn't influence the GOP pick. If you want to vote in the other guy's primary change your registration. Its just that simple.
Say what you will about Obama supporters they are a blood thirsty lot. Despite having the nomination in their hands they still keep kicking Hillary and her supporters when she's down. Better they save their strength for a far more formidible foe, the GOP attack machine. As for Senator Clinton you've been the most famous and the most hated woman in the US for the last 16 years and its time to give the title to someone else. Like Mrs. Obama or Mrs. McCain. Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.
I am completely baffled by this obsession that Hillary Clinton withdraw. She has lost the nomination. If she stood on top of the Empire State Building screaming for the next 40 years it wont change the fact that she has lost the nomination. Ignore her. Edward Kennedy lost the nomination he didn't withdraw. Ronald Reagan lost the nomindation against Ford he didn't withdraw. Gary Hart didn't withdraw. I don't recall any polls or comments from anchors attacking them for not withdrawing. The media just stopped covering them. In this case the ratings and the need to turn this into yet another psychodrama involving Hillary is too much for them to pass up. Ignore her, Salon, let her go.
