This could get interesting...

Which enemy?

Remember, in this administration you are either for them or against them. So anyone that disagrees with the official line is the enemy. Hence lying is not at odds with being truthful. Recall the Office of Misinformation. This is back in February 25th,2002.

According to Mike Allen, Washington Post Staff Writer

"Douglas J. Feith, the undersecretary of defense for policy, said at a Defense Writers Group breakfast on Wednesday that officials were working on guidelines for legitimate missions for the office and that the article appeared "in the midst of our work."

"We're going to preserve our credibility and we're going to preserve the purity of the statements that defense officials make to the public," Feith said. "We're also going to preserve our option to mislead the enemy about our operations. And those are not inconsistent.""

Original article: The V.A.'s bad review

Review...

Every time I think that there is nothing these Republicans can do to shock me, they come up with something that does just that. Shocks, sickens and saddens me. I say Republicans because nowhere in this article is there mention of any Republicans coming to the defense of patriotic veterans who have already served and suffered for their country. And Republicans and their party are the ones that have begun this shameful process.

Many Vietnam War veterans have committed suicide. Far more than most Americans know about.

To have survived that horrible and ultimately fruitless war is a feat in itself. Thousands of young men and woman were wounded, either psychically or physically. Many, if not most, of those suffering emotional damage never sought help. They felt it too shameful to admit, or they never realized what was wrong with them. Those that did not kill themselves, after many years, finally found themselves desperately seeking help at either a VA Hospital or a homeless Vet Center. The Vet Center here in Seattle has a sign over the door, "Welcome Home". The people there are very dedicated, many knowing first hand what war really does to a human being. The Regional V.A. Hospital here is also one of the best. They have reached out and helped these walking wounded find a better life (or at least, hang on to the remnant of the one they have), by providing medical care or helping these vets get their compensation benefits. Then along comes a bunch of bean counters looking for an easy way to reduce a ballooning deficit. So these courageous and severely wounded and traumatized war veterans get to sacrifice once more. Shameful!

...inappropriate?

Highly likely that the prosecutor is looking to extend the term of the grand jury AND to seek indictments. Happens all the time.

Alternate Universes

Mr. Bush also said, "in our system each individual is presumed innocent and entitled to due process and a fair trial."

Compare his statement here with his actions regarding detainees held by the United States in his War on Terror. Due Process? Fair Trial?

Libby, et al, are fortunate it is the Special Prosecutor questioning them and not the C.I.A. Otherwise, according to Vice President Cheney, torture should be allowed to get them to tell all...

The "He's just a big dick" defense...

I don't know all the details of this alleged crime, but really now, how difficult is it to imagine a woman being aroused sexually, but says "NO!" and Mr. self-proclaimed "two-by-four" goes ahead anyway?

We bought a war off a cheerleader...

Guess it works even with male cheerleaders. Our president was a cheerleader in college remember.

The real fear...

Rebecca Traister is quite correct in her observation that this is about scary backwards screeds by threatened men. Some of the responses to this article seem to indicate there are a few women who feel threatened too. A lot of defensive posturing as well as fear.

For breeding purposes, women do have expiration dates, but modern medicine is able to extend that date. Men also often have an expiration date, when they can no longer perform sexually, but even that date gets extended via medication.

But we all have an expiration date that makes us equal. It is called death.

for Elizabeth...

I wonder what is sadder. Someone who has bought into divisive "liberal" "conservative" simplistic notions of the world, or a woman who is too dumb to know that she is being marginalized and doesn't mind that she is considered too dumb to be anything but a breeder for the superior male?

A solution...

If you really think you want to continue in a relationship with a man as emotionally insecure and stunted as this guy, then just tell him you won't have sex with anyone (including him) for the next 7 years. Every cell in your body is changed over a seven-year period; that ought to make you pure enough for him.

Homeland security...

Looking at those things makes we wonder how women ever get past airport screeners.

Original article: The president, on message

Irony is not dead

Ah yes, democracy and elections in Iraq. Bush's top story indeed. And what is happening here in the "homeland"? Secret spying on Americans. Propaganda passed off as news. Outing a covert agent for political gain. The list goes on and on. 3 more years of this guy?
