Would a white girl have been taken away in handcuffs?

I don't think so.

This girl asked for her money back if she couldn't participate and they refused. That could have ended it.She would have gone home and there would have been no issue. Its not that they refused her its the way they refused her. They had an opportunity to help a youngster that seems to be lacking appropriate parental guidance by teaching her the acceptable community mores , but as usual in America its all about authoritarian power tripping. Centuries of racism make African Americans the dog most easy to kick. A white surburban family would have a lawyer up their butt in no time.

She may not remember what to wear but she and hers will sure as hell will remember the humiliation, which we all pay for down the line .Most likely she will become anti authoriatarian , just to salvage her dignity.Wonder why people complain of disaffected youth and alienation? Wonder why the drop -out rate is so high ? This is the perfect example that shows how high school is a little kingdom of frustrated bureaucrats who get a rush from their power over others .No wonder kids don't want to go to school.

And the bra issue - totally sexist.Lets start have boys wear cups all the time, if covered body parts are so dangerous.

Its not the man , its the fans

Obama's cool, gracious, positive. He's very skillfully walked the line of race in this country. Too many of his fans on the other hand are vicious, hostile sexist and hypocritical. They're already talking about "punishment " for Hillary and her backers, including denying them government positions. Its the Mccarthy Era all over again - anyone's who's not on his bandwagon is suspect of threatening the country. And I'm an Obama voter, ( I might have moved to supporter status, but not interested to jump on a bandwagon of people willing to tar and feather another)

carol (perception vs. they all suck)

Could be the grand narrative, never thought of it that way. I thought of it as projecting all flaws onto Hilary so that Obama would appear all good.I also thought of all the shows recently in which Morgaan Freeman or another black man( there's several such movies) is the embodiment of wisdom ( if not outright God.) helping out the confused white person Maybe people internalized these images..Kinda like the mystical rap Native Americans got stuck with. Its got a semi religious tone to it that brings out the self righteousness in people It's intensity also has a weird protectiveness to it , almost as if he's not capable of taking care of himself, which is somewhat detrimental in my view, for a politician.

.Its strange , especially considering that he is now the presumed nominee, yet the taunts still continue.Maybe it's a bunch of people venting on their mothers, its certainly way outside the range of the usual primary invective, you'd never guess the candidates are only fractions apart in their platforms.

rufus - wacko to wacko

your posts epitimize my observations of the type of Obama supporter that sees him as a mystical change agent , requiring minions of righteous protectors to guard the future of the planet, instead of the center of a large financial enterprise , sponsored by the usual corporate entities and offering not much difference politically.Every election people run on being Washington outsiders, thats nothing new.Every election people claim they are "of the people".All candidates run on change and hope, Bush certainly did.

I chose Obama because i couldn't abide H.C's Kyl Lieberman vote or obliterate Iran statements.

But Obama supports the same pro Isreal , anti - Iran stance (racist in it's own right) he's less bombastic.I need that after 8 years of Bush, and I'm glad someone is offering it.

But I have no illusions that this is a person who has'nt made his own deal with the devil or will, given enough time. That is the nature of politics in America and why we keep needing mystical solutions, when what we need even more as Dems and the left is to stop onesmanship each other and beat the Repugs as if lives depended on it,which they do.. Believing that, I see no point in continuing to taunt Hillary supporters, potential allies against McCain.

Imagine the animals in yor future, do it for them

I faced the same thing when I wanted to study agricultural as a youth.Fortunately i found out long before the third year that Chemical companies are the main sponsers of research in the field , subsequently their veiwpoints. were the curriculum.I remember my shock when I set out to visit the herbarium,.Silly me, I inagined a green house full of plants , smelling of earth and humus. But instead It was in a basement and all the plants were in dusty envelopes stored in thousands of file boxes.

I quit argriculture but not gardening.Later needing to support my children I returned to school for nursing, knowing it would be against so many of my ideals. ( I don't go th doctors, had my kids at home with no vaccinations) I can't say I changed anything but I can say I was there for the suffering , who came there because they had no where else to go. I know acupuncture teachers who have been hospitalized for things their colleagues couldn't heal , to continue their careers in acupuncture another day.The world is not clearcut. Bless the animals you see, as well as the professors. The truth is we are all in the process of awakening .To think you are already there is a form of arrogance.
