George Bush can be explained by his audience. He is a an actor , personal motives unimportant but whose purpose is to deliver increased power and wealth to a priviliged group..With the help of Karl Rove , a cowed media, billions of dollars for powerful and nuanced public relations campaign his handlers have pushed a previously apathetic, slightly irritated populace into rabid polarization. He is truly Chauncy Gardner("Being There" with Peter Sellers) and the American public the stooges.
Folks - its every one of us who has sought to make nice instead of jumping into a spirited discussion at the dinner table, shrugged glibly at hurtful media, and every one of us who has thought who am I ?.It is in our prefernce for big screen tv and sports instead of books and citizen action. He and his have worked that angle to make that appear the norm and anything else suspicious and unpatriotic.Real men kick butt for other real men..He has positioned those in power as victims!
For far too long Americans including myself have thought of democracy as voting every election. The 2001 election has made that view woefully laughable.
Wow Cary hates women-on the one hand he says about a mom who smokes pot , legally for extreme back pain and POSSIBLY for other motives we can only guess at ; " That is what she is saying. That is what it feels like. It feels like Mom is saying, Go fuck yourself you little piece of shit. Go fuck yourself." This mom is a selfish bitch even though she's stuck around for 15 years, but Ohmigod -she wears tiedye and listens to Grateful Dead music...Call Child Protective Services! This kid will need a lifetime of therapy.
But when it comes to a mom involved in multiple sexual relationships and a dad into BDSM , who congregates with others into BDSM (at work ,but hey isn't that why they call it work?), Cary says "So I sympathize with your situation, and encourage you to follow your instincts in this regard. I think you probably can be a positive female role model for this young woman. I think you and your husband probably can act as surrogate parents. It may do some good."
Good for who?! Certainly not for the kids in this situation. At least that 15 year old whose mom smokes pot is old enough to find a friend to stay with if he wants to escape his household tensions. At least the 19 year old in question has friends floors to sleep on. These kids are being raised in a situation in which they or their parents may not even know who their father is.Cary's concerned about moms distracted by tv or jewelry stores etc.while a dad who's into bondage and sado-masichism gets a pass? !How does he explain the strap marks and bruises at the kiddie soccer match? And how can he begin to fathom child discipline --if control and domination and physical force equals sexual pleasure. Can he really turn down spanking?Maybe instead of sending them to their room he could just handcuff them. I’m afraid to think of their 15 year old angsts.!
Cary ,what did your mom do to you? And why must you inflict it on the rest of us?
My condolences to Mr Deans family -and gratitude for talking it to the next level. We should not have to fear to call the police when our families and loved ones are in trouble, but over and over again for veteran, nonveteran male or female the police seem to have no nuanced response to fit the varied situations they encounter. They seem to operate at just one speed -overkill.Considering the fact that mental health facilities and budgets are the first to go in this time of financial constraints the police are confronting more and more cases like this. And the same sad tragedies are being repeated across the nation.
Perhaps it is just a taste of what the Iraqis and Afghani's face with our military on a daily basis and in fact ,describes our reaction to 9/11 to a tee.The inadaquecies of veteran's care for the cases created by the war profiteers puts that old myth about being "spit on" when returning from Vietnam in perspective.Any slight coming from a civlian is nothing compared to the unforgiveable betrayl from those in charge.
Sgt. Omar Mora and Staff Sgt. Yance T. Gray may you know peace and may your families know the honor of raising young men who are true heroes. To to write that article while in the armed services was truly an act of valor and loyalty to their country unequaled by others. To see clearly when others blind themselves,to have the courage to speak that truth amidst enemies who seek to silence it in order to promulgate lies, these men are martyrs to truth and exemplify the best of what America could hope for in it's young. They join the many other journalists who have received death , attempting to tell what is taking place in Iraq ,what an unjust American policy has wrought there and they will be sorely missed here on Earth.
Two words -Basset hound.
Women will rush over to you when you take them walking and they are so stubborn and determined you'll be well versed in dealing with another individual by the time the relationship comes along.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
