foreign travelers

When Palin was asked about her lack of foreign travel experience, why couldn't she have said something like, "No, unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to travel. But I hope my children do get that chance some day in the future." If she had said something like that it would have shown that perhaps she at least recognized the value of traveling and/or living in a foreign country. Instead, she could barely contain her obvious resentment both at the "elitists" who have traveled and at Katie Couric for actually daring to ask her that question.

Not everyone who has traveled abroad is a prep school graduate funded by their parents. When I first went abroad many years ago, it was all on money I saved throughout high school and college and the year after I graduated, working as a waitress, busgirl and a department store clerk and sharing apartments as I way to save money. Over the years I have traveled to many foreign countries and even lived for 5 years in Spain where I taught English. This travel experience gave me great insight into the way other people live and think, knowledge which added to what I learned from books. My own experience is not unique. People from small towns, and big cities, old and young travel abroad; some are funded by their parents but many others are not. And while I'm happy I had the opportunity to travel I don't look down on those who haven't. Palin on the other hand has nothing put contempt for those who have had other life experiences than her own. So as VP or President, will only help small town moose hunting mothers of five be worthy of her interest? Maybe not, but nothing that she has said makes me believe otherwise.

that one

Considering McCain's recent mental lapses, is it not possible that he used the expression "that one" to refer to Obama because at that moment he couldn't even remember his name? This would just be more proof of his mental decline, something which could be once and for all confirmed or disputed if he would allow full medical disclosure of his records.

be more tolerant

Yes, smoking is a nasty, potentially dangerous crazy addiction, but to leave your husband because of this would be even crazier. Why would you want your two young children to be without their father's constant love? What if a man you choose to replace your husband or a new mate he may find has even worse habits or much less love for your children? Why would that be a better scenario?

That isn't even taking into account how this move might negatively affect your financial situation and the impact that will have on your children.

Smoking may end up killing him, but he could also die in a car wreck next week or live to a ripe old age. You say he's the love of your life and a good man; plus, you have two small children. But for some reason his smoking has become more important than any of that. Perhaps what you really fear is that you'll start smoking again just being around him. Therapy is an option, something you should consider, not for him, but for yourself.

hypocrisy and contempt

My main dislike of Sarah Palin is not because of her misuse of the English language--this was merely fun--but because of her extreme positions, hypocrisy and intolerance. She has such radical views about abortion that she said she opposes it in ANY circumstances, including rape or incest, although perhaps she may allow it if the mother's life is at risk. So she opposes women's right to choose whether they have an abortion or not, yet she kept insisting that she CHOSE to have Trig, even though she knew he had Down's syndrome. How dare she speak of choice for herself, when she wants to abolish it for other women.

She also went on and on about Obama's link to Bill Ayers, ignoring her own husband's link to an Alaskan secessionist group. She even spoke at their convention this year, telling them to keep up the "good work." Again, that's another hypocrisy. Is it not terrorism to want to succeed from this country. As a rabid supporter of the NRA, what would she do if this group chooses to use AK47 rifles to achieve their goals. How would her hypocrisy play out then?

Camille Paglia appears to be totally enraptured with Sarah Palin, ignoring any of her radical views. She's entitled to her opinions, but it's hpocritical for her to belittle people who oppose Palin and those of her ilk, as if we are nothing but liberal fools, just because we don't agree with her.

Original article: The agenda of Chuck Schumer

goodbye schumer

I've been leery of Schumer ever since I read that he was in favor of keeping the ridiculously low tax rate for hedge fund managers. Recently he was a big supporter of Kristin Gillibrand, who received a 100% rating by the NRA, to replace Hillary Clinton as senator from NY. So this latest information about Schumer's voting record just cements one thing in my mind. It's time to replace our other NY senator with one who would truly represent the wishes and needs and interests of an average New Yorker and American. I will line up at the polls on primary day to vote him out of office.
