Seems mighty odd that someone, somewhere in the media--mainstream or otherwise--hasn't even once held his feet to the fire on this key and so flagrantly broken campaign promise.

He was asked about this at a press conference -- as the generally pro-Obama David Corn highlighted, Obama's answer was incredibly lame and non-responsive -- incoherent event:

I thnk the anti-Michelle Bachmann may be in there for a tie

That's what I stressed single-issue fundraising - to distinguish it from efforts to elect or defeat a candidate. The "elect Obama" fundraising was considerably higher than all of this.

If Obama does not get support for whatever bill finally emerges, then the screaming deathers would win -- the progressives, yourself and Krugman and Jane Hamsher included, would lose.

PLEASE don't join the Republican Deathers in their fight to derail Obama's presidency.

The Democrats have to support the Patriot Act and the War in Iraq because it's vital they win the 2002 midterms.

The Democrats can't oppose Bush's national security and terrorism polices -- otherwise they'll lose in 2004.

The Democrats can't top the war in Iraq or investigate Bush's warrantless eavesdropping because to do so would jeopardize their chance to win a majority in 2006.

Obama had to vote for telecom immunity and warrantless eavesdropping because otherwise the would have used it to beat him in 2008.

Progressives can't demand a public option otherwise they'll lose in 2010 and weaken Obama's presidency.

Where is Howard Dean? We need him to come back and use any influence he might have to move Obama back to the left.

He's becoming a major thorn in the side of the White House on this issue -- it very well may be motivated by personal animus to Emanuel (he was all but chased out of Washington), but whatever the motive (and I think he's genuine), he's out there rather liberated and authentic for the first time since 2003:

Fat chance getting a response from him.

I agree with your assessment entirely, but he's now with the Cato Institute, with which I've worked in the past, and I'm trying to use that relationship to maximize the likelihood of a reply.

When are you going to touch this issue, Glenn???

I've "touched" it many times. I've said as clearly as the English language permits that I don't find those theories and evidence presented for them to be persuasive, and have referenced my reasons why.

There are categories in the world other than (a) people who emphatically affirm the truth of 9/11 inside job theories and (b) people too fearful to "touch" the topic. I'm neither in (a) nor (b).

When did Mark Ambinder become a journalist?

He's always been a political blogger, and a thoroughly lousy one at that. Has he ever held an actual journalism position?

Yes - he worked for a good while at ABC News and even now is also a political analyst for CBS News, in addition to his reporting spot at The Atlantic. He's considered a real insider and media elites read and listen to what he has to say.

I'm glad you took a time-out from your Obama hate...

To give us this wonderful article. It makes a great addition to my stack of Greenwald-go-to's (which include the rage/self-pity theme on the the right, and such things).

Without even realizing it, you're just spouting the opposite side of the same coin that Ambinder used (anyone who criticizes Bush/Obama HATES them). He at least had the decency to apologize and retract it.

Maybe you can program your computer to ring a bell when I criticize the Right and ignore everything else when I criticize Obama so you don't get exposed to things that upset you.

Just because I brought up Ridge's prior revelation in here well before Hume's Ghost did today doesn't mean I need any sort of acknowledgment, too... *sniff*.

You did - but with no links or certainty. Hume's Ghost delivered the goods in a full package and thus got the glory.

The consensus is, we should mock and shout down protesters we disagree with, but it's just patently unfair that "our" people are mocked and shouted down?

People who claimed the earth revolved around the sun were once mocked; therefore, it's wrong to mock those who claim the earth is flat and was created 6,000 years ago.

What happened to the YouTube of Obama making commitments?

It's not a YouTube - it's an embedded video of some other kind, but whatever it is, it's still there:

The Democrats love war.

Is that why huge numbers of them overwhelmingly oppose the war in Afghanistan and sending more troops even though the war is now a Democratic War, while a large majority of Republicans and conservatives continue to support that war?
