NnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!

It doesn't surprise me at all that there are people of faith who condone what's happened in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo (and the truth be damned!).

Having had many a (one-sided!) conversation of late with fundamentalist Christians, I've found that in most, their belief is flexible. The harsher Christ mentality of the Book of Mark vs. the gentler, more compassionate one of the Books of Matthew and John.

It's all there in that damned book.

The Human Race

Let's come to a right understanding; there is only one Human race.

I would hope that those of us who devour books in the Sci-Fi realm would have realized this very early on. When reading about our protagonists or antagonists dealings with alien humanoids, insectoids, animoids, runaway AI, robots, and, of course, the evolved homo sapien, one would hope that the realization of what is in the author's head, rather than the color of it, is more important.

God rest, Octavia Butler. You, and all those that have passed before you, will be sorely missed.

Hillary's going to be the Dem's choice? Since when?

I'm sorry to burst the bubble, but I would hope after Kerry's Disaster, the Dems would smarten up and run someone fluent in domestic policy. Run a governer, stupid.

Mark Warner of Virginia. Please.

The producers did it

The people with the most money to be made from the results of the show are directly responsible for the rather ho-hum designs that were presented last night were the Project Runway producers. There's even that little snippet in the credits after the show saying the judges consulted with the producers to determine who was cut.

I was very disappointed in the mass of pret-a-porter designs being shuffled down that runway. While I wasn't expecting Versacci haute couture, it would have been nice to see something that gave an impression as to "this is what I design".

Santino definitely nailed Chloe. Everything she showed last night was excellently constructed, like the facade of a sky-scraper designed by Yamasaki rather than Gehry.

What Klaus said...

The Dems have a pretty good record of running governors and winning the Presidency (Clinton - AR, Carter - GA, FDR - NY, Wilson - NJ). The exception being JFK. Why the Dems insist on running Senators, I'll never know.

My money is on Mark Warner of VA. But I wouldn't count out Wes Clark or Bill Richardson (New Mexico).

I'm confused. Which country do we live in again?

It seems to me that the author is actually a proponent of censorship. While there are limits to our First Amendment freedoms (no shouting "Fire!" in a theatre, limits on access to pornography, etc.), actually stating that because something is racist and that it should not be published is a dangerous path to take.

Censorship should never be an option. Someone's feelings were hurt? So what? That's something you learned how to deal with as a child (or should have). Normally, humans grow up and mature, and we get over it. It's the sign of an evolved sensibility to be able to take something negative and turn it into a positive. Education and diplomacy should be the rule of thumb in the aftermath of a situation like this.

Should the cartoons have ever been created? Probably not. But had either side understood the reasons WHY, the need for the cartoons to exist would not, and the need for the riots to take place would not.

And if you want for a Christian equivalent, look no further than the movie "Dogma".

Treasonistic Rhetoric

And yet the writer of those words does not himself "dig deeper and find the cause of the problem". Alas, this man, bankrupt of intellect, chooses only to spew and does not offer solutions. This, children, is just rhetoric, unworthy of an adjective.

I, for one, do feel the need to educate the writer. The form of the word treason that you are probably trying to use is "treasonous". "Treasonistic", is not a word.

Drivers beware

I'm reminded of a recent commute to work where I was tailgated for 20 miles by a young woman in a Honda Civic, one hand holding her cellphone to her ear, mouth agape madly gabbing away. Every so often I would peer back at her to see what she was up to. In one of these instances, and to my horror, I realized that she was a handtalker. One hand plastered to her ear, the other flailing about, and, human anatomy being what it is, obviously nothing on the wheel.

While I don't begrudge anyone their use of a cellphone, as a courtesy to others, please, at least make it look like you're driving.

You missed the point

The point wasn't to give you any "black hat/white hat" information on Senator Sununu. The point was to move you into doing a little research on your own and coming to your own conclusions based on what you found.

Forcing Libertarians into any one stereotype (like calling them government fearing pot-smokers) doesn't help anyone, least of all yourself. The same can be said of any group.

One would hope that in an age where independent thought is at a premium, more people come to this conclusion outright.

Political Activity and the Church

The pastor of the church and members of the church clergy are forbidden from backing a particular candidate running for office using the pulpit.

However, judicial confirmations are exempt, since they are not running against an opponent.
