Joe's Strawman

I recognize that we are still in a war and you think it ended and we lost.

I didn't know you could read minds! Can you hear what I'm thinking right now?

You think our enemies fall into neat boxes instead of understanding that they are in the shadows working out of clear view and often together.

Amazing! Is that what he's thinking? Wow! You're cool!

You think there have been virtually no improvements in security when all indications are otherwise.

And all this time, I thought mind-reading was all hooey.

MEANWHILE, IN THE REAL WORLD

Thanks for your insightful commentary. It was a real eye-opener. I had no idea that correlation equaled causation. I mean, no terrorist attacks within U.S. borders since 2001? When was the last one before then? 1993? So, it took them roughly 8 years to plan and carry out another one?

Gee, and it's been less than 5 years since 9/11. So, maybe, just maybe, we really have whether anything that's being done now will be effective when the next attack happens.

That small world view you accuse the rest of us of...must be awfully wierd looking through those rose-colored glasses of yours.

You had me until you mentioned Maui

Any good Big Island Boy will tell you, if you're from the mainland, wear a fanny pack, talk loudly and are generally obnoxious, then yes, Maui is definitely paradise. Go there all the time, never venture outside Lahaina, and for heaven's sake, when you're done, leave and come back next year and spend more money again.

If you have an open mind, are curious without being judgmental, talk softly but firmly, and can keep your opinions on all things to yourself unless asked, then by all means, visit the country-side, see the valleys, the rivers, the waterfalls, the volcano, the deep-water reefs, the cliff-jumpers, the mountain top sunrises and sunsets, bask in the heat of our sun and revel in the glow of our moon and stars.

What happens at the airport stays at the airport. Don't expect the lei greetings and the generic "warmth" that is shown when you deplane. The real stuff is earned.

Brothers of the Head

I'm just curious why Salon, a progressive online news magazine, has shied away from the "queer" subtext in Brothers, double entendre intended. While the movie isn't explicitly a gay-flick, it's certainly has its moments.

Other reviews haven't shied away from the movie's content. Why did Salon and Mr. O'Hehir?

It was all fine until he said...

That this year's seniors were in first grade when Ellen came out. Talk about suddenly feeling old. Small children stay small children until GenXers turn 40 right? RIGHT?

Dear Mr. Matalin,

I think someone summed up the general idea of what the voters said this past Tuesday. "Shut up and listen."

Now shut your yap and get in the kitchen and make me some pie.

What the hell is wrong with you people?!

What's WITH all the animadversion aimed at GK? It's Chrismachannukwanzaaka for crying out loud.

I swear to [the] freakin' God/G-d/gods/creative beings/nothingness, SUBTLETY is lost on so many people. What? Does GK have to knock you over the f*cking head with a salmon for you to get it?

Geez Lou-f*cking-eeeze. Try reading GK without bias for once (hell, try reading ANYTHING without bias for once) and there is a hell of a lot more subtlety to MOST writings than meets the cerebrus.

Let me know if you need a salmon. I live in Seattle. I'll have the guys at Pikes Place chuck one at you.

/ok, I feel better now.

ENOUGH ALREADY - He didn't say that!!

He didn't say the U.S. was a Christian nation. Read it again. Besides, there's just a little thing that's been niggling at me about that...

IT WAS THREE FREAKING WEEKS AGO!! For an American forced to watch seventy bajillion images packed into 10 second commercials every 8 minutes on your TV, you sure have a long-ass memory.

And he didn't say that. Before you go passing your LIES off as TRUTH, which by the way sounds an AWFUL lot like the Current Occupant and his cronies, learn how to read.

And take your rhetoric elsewhere, we're all full up here.

n'kay, thanks a lot, buh-bye now.

Emergence, not emergency

It should be "emergency of a Shia strongman," or it should be "emergency[sic] of a Shia strongman,".

The second scenario wouldn't be completely beyond the administration.

Friday, February 2, 2007 09:00 AM

I'm an idiot

"emergence of a Shia strongman,"

Cut-and-paste will be the death of me.

Original article: Losing Louisiana to the GOP

I don't think I'm alone when I say...

Let the South go as red as their necks. Give it 50 years and it'll be exactly the opposite again.

That is, if we even HAVE a republican democracy in this country anymore.

Razor thin margins

I work in this incestuous industry and I get all kinds of complaints and stories from people who have had bad travel experiences. I listen and nod at all the right places, then I ask, "How much did you pay for your ticket?" Usually it's something insanely cheap and then I quip right back, "It's like Wal*Mart, you get what you pay for."

We as consumers are responsible for the state of the travel industry as it currently stands. Getting an 8-cent RASM on a 8-cent CASM route will get you exactly what you pay for - nothing.

So all this talk about regulation being a good thing is just fine by me (it's not). Just be prepared for the price-tag that goes along with it.

Heh. Stupid Democrats.

Ok so who will be the first LW...

to disparage GK and say how out of touch he is, what a hyprocrite he is, or how offensive his language is?

I mean, long schnozz? Are you going to let him get away with that?

I await the "how dare you, sir"...
