Nobody wants to read the Iraq Study Group Report? Anybody?

Neither President Bush nor, apparently, parents of troops in Iraq wish to read the report? Let me supply a quick bit from that report for the benefit of Salon poster Verelse, who so eloquently posted about her son protecting the Iraqi people from "insurgents." The report states: "If there were foreign forces in New Jersey, Tony Soprano would be an 'insurgent leader." Is it our job to occupy other countries until they are rid of their organized crime? Read the report, it's available for free online with a simple search.

Eloquent language about the nobility of serving in Iraq is brought back down to reality with the commonsense statements of the likes of Rep. David Obey (D-WI), who said in March 2007, "What matters is whether or not we produce a product today that puts pressure on this administration and sends a message to Iraq, to the Iraqi politicians, that we're going to end the permanent, long-term, dead-end baby-sitting service."

Verelse, I and others want to support your son now, by bringing him home NOW.

Reminds Me of the Famous Dukakis-in-a-Tank Photo

You can dress a politician in combat gear, but it only makes them look ridiculous and laughable, just like President George W. Bush in the flight suit.

Looks Like Salon Has a Scoop Here

To Joan Walsh and company: Reporter Tim Grieve's legal training comes in handy on this story. Hopefully, this will get picked up by the mainstream media fairly quickly.

There Are No Letters To Display

that could possibly describe just how bad this is for our country. God Save the Constitution!

Why this strip is disappointing to me

Having Opus substitute for Bush fails because:

- It inadvertently transfers Opus's lovable qualities to the president, who is anything but lovable.

- It transfers Opus' cutesy qualities to the president

- It makes us see the President as a cutesy failure

- It could just make folks feel sorry for poor ol' Georgie

- The decision to go to war and kill thousands of people is not the same as a decision to take a pleasant summer dive into a swimming hole.

Thus the strip is revolting to me and presumably, by so saying here, I have now automatically ensured my letter doesn't get an "Editor's Choice" status. So it goes.

I don't usually respond to flames, but...

I thought this was supposed to be a civilized forum. It's inappropriate for this "Anonymous" to take my post, twist it into something it's not, and use the result to attack some third poster.

Perhaps THE EDITOR should weigh in here. The personal attacks are way out of hand. Hello, editor? Helloooooo?

True, the Yahoo News Groups are closed, but has all the traffic simply moved to Salon? Perish the thought!

(Door closing sound as I am done with this thread, 'bye all)

Wipe the Record Clean? or Flush his Senate Career?

Will America finally get out of the bathroom and get back to its real business? This whole case really needs to just go down the drain once and for all!

MLB Postseason Too Complicated For This Baseball Fan

It's too long and convoluted and drawn-out. I am a baseball fan but like many americans I cannot understand, let alone follow, the MLB playoffs-to-get-into-the-playoffs-to get-into-the (repeat ad infinitum). I know, it's like the final 16 or something right now, including the wild card teams.

I defy any baseball fan, including King, to explain the postseason in one readable sentence.

Lynx

Very good! It's becoming slightly clearer. Wish someone had a chart with lines, like an final four basketball chart, that would help me figure out postseason MLB. I don't mean to sound negative, but it's just so drawn out/convoluted, it's plain hard to follow! Cheers, Glennski

Now Here Is A Real "Patriot Act" !!!

Although I am an avid newsreader, Senator Dodd was never on my list of "2008 candidates to consider." He certainly is now. My thanks to him for what he's doing, and to Joan Walsh for pointing this out.

These are very difficult times for real Americans who love the Constitution. We need no less than a leader with the courage to restore the Constitution to its pre-Bush glory. Neither Senator Obama nor Senator Clinton initiated such a move as Senator Dodd, although they easily could have done so. This gives me a horrible "waking up" feeling that neither Clinton nor Obama may be what we need to take our country back.

I will be waiting for either Senator Obama or Clinton to stand shoulder to shoulder with Dodd on this. I'm afraid it will be a long wait. Thank you again, Senator Dodd, and I hope the mainstream media will take notice of this very important story.

Huckabee is factually incorrect about God as well as about Science

Huckabee states, "science changes with every generation and with new discoveries and God doesn't. So I'll stick with God if the two are in conflict."

Huckabee's factually incorrect to say that nothing ever "changes" with God. For example, our conceptualization of God as a male figure is rather recent when one looks at the history of religions. Goddess worship used to be the order of the day.

Regarding science, it's not factually correct for Huckabee to say that science is subject to arbitrary "change" every generation. Rather, science continually builds upon previous discovery, and allows us to achieve things undreamed of generations ago. Citing the changing nature of scientific progress as a reason *not* to believe what science shows us can only be described as foolish.
