I know why people complain about Heather's writing. And my only response is, "Don't read it cocksucker!"
I sometimes get sick of all the reality show crap, but when she writes about these HBO and Showtime shows it is a special read. Glorious recaps of many of my own feelings. Still not sure Brotherhood is matching he writeup, but its damn good.
But did you see last night's Closer?! Except for the David Kelly-esque ending, it was damn good.
Eloquently eulogized, Heather has done a great service as usual with this essay on the finale of Season 3 Deadwood. While there were times this season when I found the episodes slow going (in particular the repeated drug problems and the internal workings of the acting troupe never interesting) the final 2 episodes were felt with accumulating force in my psyche. The lack of black and white morality is what makes this show so amazing. Unlike say Sopranos where the characters are simply too interesting to judge them severely for their crimes, yet we always know who the crimicals are, in Deadwood we have situations like the killing of the whore in this final episode where we understand each person's take on the situation. It's an unforgiveable crime, but we see that trying to judge these people is a waste of time. As a pacifist I felt a strong urge to see Hearst sliced from end to end. Yet off he walks, richer than ever. Despicable beauty.
Pete is no Poseur. He is one of the greats of rock music. Like most of those greats his best work ended around 1974. Maybe it was the drugs.
The last 4 episodes of Brotherhood were a slog. I won't watch it again.
I don't agree it is lazy storytelling. Ron Moore has been on the web continuously talking to fans this week, he has stated that the 4 ARE Cylons, but of a "different type" This sets up an interesting duality among the supposedly all evil unified Cylon race. Cannot wait for season 4. Dylan rules.
The first 6 episodes this season were mostly awful, you have to admit that. It is only in the last 10 or so that things have gotten spicy again. Still, if they kill John Locke...I am outa here.
Veronica did not go gentle into that good night. She was vicious and fun to watch, I enjoyed these last episodes immensely. The show should stay on, if only because it's creator can write a line like "Rob Thomas is a whore" with such blithe class. So what happens to these folks? Hopefully many of the evildoers are punished from the publication of the audio recordings by The Castle, Keith loses and goes back to PI work, Veronica heads to the FBI and loses Piz, Logan is killed by the Mob, and life goes on in Neptune under the horrible Vinny.
I produced a concert of Duncan here in Arden, DE recently and it was wonderful. This interview however is the first I have seen him talk about his feelings for writing to other's lyrics and for other singers compared to writing his own songs. I find the Spring Awakening music to be amazing and inspired, some of the best music I have heard ever. For Broadway the show is groundbreaking, bringing teen performers into a show where they are truly in touch with the issues and create characters than live and breathe. The fine lyrics of Sater and the amazing direction of Michael Mayer combine with the thrilling choreography of Bill T Jones to make an enthralling, exhausting, but gorgeous night of theater. When I saw the show with my 2 teenage daughters, we stayed after and chatted with the amazing cast. Now they have been able to chat a bit with Duncan as well. If only he could have done more than 3 songs from the show here! John Gallagher Jr from here in Delaware, grew up a mile from our house, is up for a Tony! Good luck John! My daughters and I act in musicals at Wilmington Drama League, where John started nearly 10 years ago. I will be watching and hoping for this show to sweep the awards! Watch for the Spring Awakening scene at about 10:25 PM on Sunday (after the Sopranos thankfully!)
See this show folks, and buy the album. Duncan produced the album (all on his Mac of course). Listen to the cello on Don't Do Sadness.

I can see some of the problems with Dexter that people mention, but it was a consistently enjoyable and great season, even better than the first. A well written show with great twists and turns.
Maybe the Clay Davis courtroom seen ain't believable to you folks, but it is based on an actual state legislator who was acquitted in just that way. That State legislator in question actually plays the radio interviewer for Clay a week or so back. I watch the show a week ahead on demand, so tonight is it, and I cannot wait. This show is simply awe inspiring. "Goodnight scammers!"
Unbelievable. Some of us watch the wire on demand every Monday, 6 days ahead of the live broadcast, but this morning we find a 1 minute promo that says the Season Finale won't be on demand for another WEEK! And they joke about it, repeatedly showing Clay Davis's signature line and saying "We knew you wold say that" Damn! I really want to see the finale!
