One of the many unemployed

I have been unemployed since November and still looking for a job. I have been called back on so many "second interviews" I've lost count. I am told by employers that they are "still interviewing" which means there are so many people out there looking it's an "employers market". An employer can pick and choose and get the most qualified person for the job. I really feel we are in a depression as I don't think the numbers really reflect all the people like myself who are looking. A lot of people have stopped looking. I just went to a networking group and there were over 150 people without jobs. It is so depressing and I don't think I have ever seen it this bad. It seems like everyone is on a freeze and nobody is hiring. The jobs that are available are low-paying and with gas prices as they are, you can't afford to drive very far. I am too young to remember the Great Depression but I do remember my parents talking about what a difficult time it was for everyone. I would like to see more decent jobs being created or some type of stimulus for job creation.

One woman who is not voting for Palin

Right on Joan! As a woman, I find a lot to dislike about Sarah Palin. I do not support any of her views. I think the more that comes out about her, the less women will like about her. Like you, I believe if she is a "pitbull with lipstick" then she should be fair game with the Democrats. I think it is interesting she is not open to interviews right now. Are the Republicans drilling her on what to say and not to say???? She is not qualified, in my view, to be one heart beat away from the presidency.

Sarah playing catch up

She should be on tv doing interviews but she has to play "catch up" and be drilled on what to say and not to say re: foreign policy. She is incompetent to be one heartbeat away from the presidency. She is probably in a room somewhere with Republicans who are drilling her right now.

Zombie Mystique

I lived through the 60's and as a college student read The Feminine Mystique. I do not identify with Sarah Palin as he views on everything are opposite of what I believe. I do not think she is pretty at all. What bothers me is the fact that so many women think she is "charismatic". Like you, I am terrified of thinking she could end up in the White House. All of my friends are voting for Obama and I do believe he is the candidate who will really give us change. I do not want more of the same and McCain would be the status quo. We need more jobs created, a focus on the economy and health care. The candidates need to focus on the issues. I am really sick of hearing about Sarah Palin!

Sarah blew it

I watched the debate from the beginning to the end. Sarah Palin disturbs me. She sounded very mechanical almost like a wind-up doll that was spouting out canned phrases. Like Joan, I viewed her lack of decency when Biden referenced his family tragedy. I felt Joe Biden won the debate easily. He has experience in foreign policy matters and I can't imagine this woman as a vice-president. Her voice bothers me and I find it difficult to listen to her. A friend of mine called me after the debate and had the same feelings. She mentioned her dislike of the way Sarah Palin would not answer specific questions. We both feel Sarah has her eyes on the presidency and this frightens both of us.

Mr. Blinkalot

My daughter who was watching the debate with me noticed that McCain was blinking a lot. Was he nervous, angry or what? He was an angry man, in my opinion. I didn't like McCain's sarcasm. He lost the debate in more ways than one.

It's not over until it's over

Hi Joan,

I'm a big fan of your column. I am worried that the Republicans will try something against Obama. That is why I am going into volunteer my services at the local Obama office. I've been volunteering every weekend. Like you, I do not like Sarah Palin. I do not think she has the experience to even be considered for the vice presidential slot. I will feel a lot better when I know Obama has won. McCain has run a really dirty campaign.

Palin pranked so funny

I loved it! I can't believe her handlers didn't check out the pranksters. I thought she showed her stupidity as usual. What a disaster for the Republican party. I can't stand her voice. Ugh!

Arizona win for Obama

I live in Arizona and I see far more car stickers for Obama. I've just seen a few for McCain so I think it is possible for Obama to win Arizona. Afterall, we have a great Governor Napolitano and she is a Democrat. I think it is possible. We are hurting here with loss of jobs and foreclosures.
