Pedinska, Kitt

Kitt: No, it was definitely Voles. An instance of meta-drift!

Pedinska: Personally, I like the thread drift, and value it as a part of a vital community. Sometimes it's like what WT described as the Algonquin Effect (okay, I added the 'Effect' part), other times even the silliness adds to the community. Not everyone agrees, as we've seen here recently. But it would be a poorer place, IMHO, without it.

HOTT-wise, I just figured it would be another means to keep the drift going ... or an outlet, when there's something worth sharing and discussing that's just one leap too far. Then there's the possibility of cross-fertilization, as one OT group collides with another. We'll see, I guess.

@Derbig

I should have added, that guy who always thinks it's about him! :>

@Derbig

Are you having difficulty breathing? How's your pulse? Any red splotches breaking out?

Anybody who doesn't have these symptoms just isn't paying attention.

Good Lord, it's spreading! What's worse, being a troll or an allergen?

Could be worse, still. You could be a Vole ...

Kitt

I was making an obviously-not-so-funny funny, riffing off your typo of 'prophet' instead of profit. (Ah well, it amused me anyway)

And I meant it when I said, Good for her!

Jameka

I'm curious to know if you actually read Glenn's update and examined his extracts from the Harvard report.

You'll notice the survey results that indicate very clearly that this 'coverage' ... the banal seepage of scandal, pseudo-scandal, celebrity gossip and so forth ... is explicitly not what people want in their news.

Nor is that 'just one report'. Pew, Poynter, PEJ, CCJ, CJR, AJR and others have been producing reports like this for years. It isn't just research, either; audience statistics, the plummeting markets etc. have all demonstrated how little demand there is for this 'content' ... analysis of same is also available from the above sources.

The dynamic that produces this crap is largely to be found on the supply side, not demand, in other words.

@Baldie

Resignation from what? Does Glenn work for the Justice Department?

Didn't you know? Glenn heads up the DOJ's high-profile Office for Gay Activism.

@damnthatxanadu

he has been amazingly timidly quiet when it comes to Clinton as of late. Actually, for a long, long while.

Actually, although Glenn has written about unfair coverage to both sides (and to Ron Paul as well) as a matter of illustrating his points about political journalisms' many failings, he's also said time and time again that he's not interested in wading into the daily conflagrations between obsessed members of either side. It was a wise move.

Every day that passes makes his exoneration on this point more complete.

This might surprise you, but many of us outside the din find the whole back and forth to be very tiresome, even when we support the same candidate that the whinging legions won't shut up about.

The daily charges of hypocrisy, bigotry (of whatever stripe), partisanship and bias, or whatever insult the aggrieved side thinks has the most currency are pointless, solipsistic and destructive. That goes for both sides.

We're just waiting for you all to STFU so that we can get back to real politics, persuading all the people you've insulted to come back into the fray and join the common cause (i.e. cleaning house and getting the country back on track), and otherwise cleaning up your messes.

But please, by all means, continue talking about how Glenn doesn't give enough space to all the indignities your candidate has suffered, because really that's the most important thing right now.

WT, LWM

I wish I could stick around for this, but I've had my drinks and now the Bride is hollering downstairs to see if I'm on That Damn Blog again.

So I'll catch up with you in the morning (over my muesli and milk).

Night, all

@Patrick Morgan

I'm an American who doesn't agree with all the policies of the U.S. government, does that make me a self-hating American?

It makes you a Liberal, which is pretty much the same thing in case you hadn't heard.

Got any therapy you'd like to offer the other terrorists?

9/11 changed everything?

With Dershowitz, I think it started after his Reversal of Fortune with the von Bulows.
