  • Disappointing argument

[Read the article: What the Poling autism case means]

How can the author possibly hold a medical degree and still appear to be unable to construct a decent argument? She knows very well that there is not only one problem ingredient in vaccines and that one of the arguments against using them has more to do with the effects of overstimulating a very immature immune system.

These MDs really do seem to just be trained drug dispensers sometimes. Or at least just desperate to not step out of the box that they have been trained so hard to think inside of. It's really a shame because we need more unbiased intelligent analysis of this situation.

Regarding vaccine efficacy, there have been some studies published which show that disease levels were already on the decline before the introduction of certain vaccines...

But those of us who haven't vaccinated out kids have to accept that we've probably benefitted from millions of other people's children being vaccinated in the past so that the risk to our own children in the west is small. Not an easy judgment call.

  • Bears, dogs, cats, people

All this ridiculous political correctness... goodness. Having spent some time in China I can assure you that the Chinese generally are not exactly nice to animals. They actually often seem to have no feeling at all for other creatures. But they can also be like that with each other so there we go. We all know that human rights go hand in hand with animal rights, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

I have no problem judging crappy barbaric behavior whether it's in China, or in the west in our disgusting slaughter houses that play out scenes from a horror movie every day of the week. Oh, and to all those tiring people who like to watch wildlife shows on Animal Planet none of this has anything to do at all with how wild animals kill each other for food - really, nothing. Just google some videos of factory farms or dogs being skinned alive if you dare. But you probably don't dare.

  • Electro Robot?

Wow Electro Robot - all you can do to defend your ignorance is throw personal insults around. Good job. Very smart.

  • BE REALLY CAREFUL

Please, LW, just be really careful. I felt the same way in my 20s and I just did it, with the wrong man, because I was so clucky that I didn't take a good look at him. I thought that I was being rational, but I was a million miles away from using my brain. You have plenty of time so please please just give yourself a couple of years to find out if this man is the love of your life, the one. Don't settle for less.

No doubt you are absolutely correct in your analysis. Maybe your could join the program to show them how it's really done. It would be fun to watch the real McCoy in action. I came from that world and I escaped long enough ago that it's quite entertaining to watch it on TV! Like a comic horror movie.

  • Good lord!

[Read the article: Did Portishead kill trip hop?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That was quite a way to say that you don't like the album, Mr. Hannaham. What a rant. I'll have to check it out to see if it's that bad.

Oh and Greenbriar, you're all into trip hop but you're unfamiliar with Portishead? Hmm. But I'm intrigued by the idea of a cross pollinating media artist?!

  • I think you sound like a nice guy, LW

[Read the article: I'm really a self-actualized being, but my family is all messed up]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There's a lot of talk about narcissists around here but it sounds to me as if you are just trying to maintain your sanity while your family goes through some funky times. You have a right to feel happiness and gratitude for all the good things in your life without being accused of a lack of empathy towards your family.

I have a kid like yours. She can flip out in a split second. It creates quite an abusive dynamic in the family. We all ended up afraid of her. But therapy really helped and I wish we had gone when she was 5 or 6, instead of 13 but nevertheless, things are much better now. We learned better communication techniques (which I initially found intensely annoying) so that she could feel heard and understood. This really calmed her down. She also learned to take responsibility for the effect that she was having on us. As for medication, I'm so glad we didn't go there. We all learned so much thanks to this problem.

As for the drinking issue, how about waiting until you are all a little further down the therapy road. Maybe your wife needs some extra support and once she has it she might lay off the beers. If she doesn't you could ask the therapist for help with the issue.

Good luck to you and by the way, I'm sorry about your cat.

  • McClelland - disgusting

Do you even begin to hear what you're saying? Horses are oddly designed creatures? So, why are we using them to race? Most people don't know horses anymore and that's why they are shocked when they see a horse break both it's legs? What a load of complete RUBBISH. It's amazing what people will justify so that they can continue getting their kicks from this revolting spectacle.

Oh, another great line: "Infirm horses are rarely shipped to the slaughterhouse these days."

Edward, my dear, where do you think they're taking the poor sick horsies? To the nice animal hospital? Give me a break.

I'm really curious; who hired this guy to write an article for Salon. Are there no standards around here anymore?
