An Honor Well Earned

Congratulations, Glenn! I'm thrilled that both you and Amy Goodman (another tireless advocate for the lost art of Journalism) are getting the recognition you both deserve.

When the profession regains its stature, it will have been possible due to your relentless focus on the failure of today's media.

Well done!

Real Regulators Might Help

"It's going to be very interesting to see how such strategies are implemented. If there's one thing that Wall Street is very, very good at, it's coming up with new ways to game the system after the old ways have either been outlawed or proved ruinously self-destructive. The SEC could not even prevent crime as bold or bald-faced as the fraud committed by Bernie Madoff or Allen Stanford. How will government stay ahead of, or just keep even with, the constant stream of invention that the highly paid bright minds at the AIGs of the future concoct?"

It would really help if people other than industry whores were appointed to the various regulatory agencies. The SEC didn't alway use to be this way. The used to ask you questions until you provided a coherent explanation of what you were doing. Good regulators adapt and make sure investors are always protected (from themselves, most of the time). Pay them well, and give them the tools they need.

Geithner and Summers Need to Go

They're a couple of foxes in charge of this henhouse and are showing a complete lack of integrity on this issue. What little confidence I ever had in Geithner is evaporating each time something like this happens.

@ LondonLad - Wishful thinking by trolls like you won't make it so. STFU.

There's Fear in Them Words

Boy, these guys are really worried about the impact Stewart's interview will have on their ratings. I wonder what will happen if their ratings drop significantly.

This country is truly gone apeshit when the comedians wield all the media power.

But it's not like Stewart has some special power over public sentiment. He's just giving voice to what everyone's thinking in an entertaining way.

The MSM ignores him (and Colbert) at their peril.

All Insurance Co.s Play that Game

As someone who handled a number of claims following the 1994 earthquake in Los Angeles, I can say that all insurance companies will completely lowball you and force you to assemble your own team of experts to force them to agree to a real settlement amount that would actually fix the house.

I handled about a dozen claims, and the final negotiated amount was AT LEAST double of what they had originally estimated.

They just hope that people will sign on the dotted line to get their check.

Except for the smallest repairs, claim settlements are always adversarial.

TV, Yes, but What about the Internet?

"What Cramer knows, is that the Daily show has a MUCH smaller audience than NBC or any affiliates, so he can say whatever he wants and the gamble will pay off."

Yes, their TV audience is smaller, but the internet exposure is pretty massive. It seems that the video line went viral after the initial broadcast. I'de like to see the stats on how many hits TCC's website received just on that interview over the following week.

I Hate the "Can't Walk and Chew Gum" Argument

The GOP uses it all the time. "Oh, he has too much on his plate," "Let's just focus on fixing the economy," blah, blah, blah. Just because we're mad at the bonuses doesn't mean we're even MORE mad about the billions of bail-out money. The difference between the GOP and Democrats: we can multitask.

The value in the bonus scandel is that it finally brings the overall issue into the public consciousness. As Obama said on Leno, the real problem is that all this stuff was LEGAL.

There's a perfect storm on the horizon and its going to come crashing down on these assholes. They may get their money now, but in the end, even they will realize that it wasn't worth it.

Colbert Rocks! (As Usual)

Satire is really the only effective tool against these fools. Anyone who takes that asshat Beck seriously is beyond repair and can only be quarantined.

Laughter is truly the best medicine.

What TheGOP Doesn't Tell You

is that the lower and middle classes will be reduced to hunter-gatherer status, chucking their spears at the walls of the republican gated communities.

Other than the standard defense budget, there will be no money for other government services. On the healthcare front, people will have to go out into the street to secure donors for organ transplants.

It's Official

1 in 3 Americans are delusional and in a state of complete and utter denial.

I've Stopped Donating to Party Organizations

I now send my money to those groups who I KNOW are representing my interests (EFF, ACLU, NARAL, Common Cause, etc.). I also send cash to blogs I read regularly (WA Monthly, Firedog, Hullabaloo), but will expand to others if needed.

It's time to start taking care of our own. I know it's not probably much, but if enough of us do it, they won't be able to shut us down.

Good Job, Joan

Add me to the chorus that thought you did quite well on this one, Joan.

This whole "physical safety" bullshit is such a crock. The MERE EXISTANCE of Guantanamo is creating thousands of terrorists all over the world, and all they can talk about is whether the one's that are released attack us (I wouldn't blame them).

Failure to substantively address Guantanamo, torture and our occupation of Iraq are the three biggest sources of terrorism against our country. The right wing will never comprehend this because they have neither the intellect or the empathy to put it all together.

Like you said, Joan, it's all very complicated and the GOP just can't handle complicated issues. Hopefully, people are starting to realize this.

If This Were 2003

They would have been relocated to a vacant parking lot a couple of miles away. That's the Bush/GOP version of Freedom of Speech.
