  • I'm Not Freaking

[Read the article: McCain seems awfully happy with Tuesday's results]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

like a lot of others. Yeah, there have been a lot of "character" issues that are already old news, and most people are sick and tired of them. What is there left to use?

Meanwhile, states which never have received any attention are gearing up to be the next "crucial" primary. Democratic voter registration turnouts are at all-time highs in state after state, and voters are fully engaged as they are personally feeling the impact of Bush policies.

Yes, the general election is not going to be easy. They never are. But I feel good about party turnout in November. The hard choice is being made now. For anyone with half a watt, November is a no-brainer.

And as for money, I've been saving most of mine for the general election and hopefully others are thinking along the same lines. I think there will be no problem out-raising the republicans.

Bottom line: There is too large a gap between the campaign platforms to use "character" issues as a litmus test. It IS the economy once more, and four more years is certain disaster. Those who don't believe that never will. They're called republicans. Any there aren't that many of them any more.

  • How About a McCain/Hagee Counter Ad?

[Read the article: Anti-Obama ad a winner for McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Same format, just include McCain's hearty acceptance of Hagee's endorsement in between the countless loathsome Hagee soundbites.

Nobody even has to tell Obama. Just run it.

It's time to show the republicans that they are traveling down the wrong path and will get their asses handed to them if they continue.

  • We have to counter 2X as Hard

[Read the article: Will McCain denounce Floyd Brown?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I want to see an ad mixing McCain's praise for Rev. Hagee in between Hagee's numerous hateful comments. I want to see that ad aired in every market that an Obama/Wright ad is aired, using the same media outlet. And if the media outlets refuse, SUE them in a very public way.

We have 2x the $$ than the repubs, let's put it to good use. Pre-produce these ads regarding likely attack issues, and then air them immediately to counter any right-wing ad run on that topic.

We have to get proactive this time around.

  • Does Nancy, Harry and Steny

[Read the article: Audit shows more problems with Iraqi security forces]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

still want to approve more unconditional funding of the war? Time to put a tight leash on BushCo and demand some accountability.

  • Not to sound too nerdy

[Read the article: Karl Rove: Honest political genius]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

But there's a scene in one of the Star Trek movies (I think it's the 2nd one), where Capt. Kirk asks the Klingon captain (played perfectly by Christopher Lloyd) to transport his comrades so they can duke it out. The Klingon refuses and when Kirk asks why he says:

    "Because you wish it."

Sage advice IMHO and that is why any "advice" by Karl Rove should be taken to mean the exact opposite of what is good for the Democratic Party.

  • McCain has a lot more to worry about on this "issue"

[Read the article: Obama, Wright in new local Republican ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The republicans can go down this road at their own peril. Rev. Wright has fully expressed his views on Bill Moyer's Journal and I defy anyone who has watched that interview to label him unpatriotic or a hate monger.

Hagee, on the other hand, had a chance to explain his views and showed that he is nothing but a hate monger who peddles fear and ignorance to achieve his aims.

IMO, let's bring this issue front and center and compare each candidates "spiritual leaders." I think McCain would lose BIG on that one.

Americans are going to have to confront the less admirable characteristics of this country if there is to be any hope in solving the huge issues that face us. Are Americans "evil" and can America do no good? Of course not. That's the standard BS black/white dichotomy that the republicans always throw at us. But if these issues are not discussed in earnest, that perspective is all thats left for a lot of voters.

  • @Saintzak - Condi for VP!!

[Read the article: Obama, Wright in new local Republican ad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"What about Condi? Her name is still floating around as the magic bullet VP nominee that would combat both Obama or Clinton. I'm no fan of Dr. Rice, but I have to think the Republicans' tactic of ugly racial devide has to bother her. If they do turn to her as their token I sincerely hope she the self esteem to tell them to go fuck themselves."

Given her past record, I'm not too optimistic about her asserting her independence.

But I would LOVE to have her on the repub. ticket. Man, we could spend the next six months just talking about the impact of bushco foreign policy during the last eight years/next four years.

  • Alex, Get Over Yourself

[Read the article: The return of the Rev. Wright]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You act like you think independently and then go and spout the same BULLSHIT conventional wisdom that is ruining this country.

Your post today gives credence to the moronic contention that because Obama attends his church, he must be in total agreement with everything he preaches or does, or at least everything "controversial."

Tell me Alex, when you go to church or some other social gathering, do you mindlessly agree with whatever the speaker says? If you're not that stupid, what makes you think Obama is? And is this the type of mentality that you want to encourage here at Salon?

Stop legitimizing this completely bullshit linkage.

    "New DEM dream ticket . . .

    Obama/Wright '08

At least from reading the bat-shit crazy posts in this thread.

    -- SkylarDexter"

Wow. Your incisive analysis on this issue overwhelms me. I guess I have no choice to conclude that seeing Rev. Wright as anything other than a fringe radical is implicit support of him as a VP candidate. Your fucking brilliant!
