It's the war, stupid
[Read the article: The Oprah Winfrey show]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If one agrees with the premise that the Iraq War has been the most bloody and shameful chapter in a generation of our nation's history, how could one possibly bestow his one precious vote upon Hillary Clinton (or John Edwards, for that matter), who helped make this horrific mistake a reality?
America desperately needs an image makeover. Barack Obama had the courage and integrity to stand up and oppose this senseless war from the start. It's time to let the world know that we have acknowledged this dark mistake and will no longer reward the characters who were complicit in it. It's time to embrace a new and hopeful future.

Yes, courage
[Read the article: The Oprah Winfrey show]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, it was indeed courage demonstrated by Barack Obama when he publicly opposed the rush to the Iraq War.
Rewind the tapes to October 2002 and you have a nation whipped up into a fear-driven froth of perverse patriotism. Against all logic, we were invading a country that had no connection to 9/11 or al-Qaeda. Yet, the vast majority of Americans were swallowing whole the lies of the Bush administration and draping themselves in the flag.
Those who dared to question or protest the war were shouted down, ostracized and ridiculed as being unpatriotic--in homes, in social circles, in workplaces. Maybe you were one of them. And yes, consequences were paid. Remember the Dixie Chicks?
Barack Obama was merely an Illinois state representative at the time, but he publicly and forcefully spoke his conscience against the insanity, at great risk to his public image and his career in politics.
While HIllary and John Edwards were acquiescing to the political tides, Obama resisted and did the right thing. This is courage.

Hillary is getting desperate
[Read the article: Did the Clinton campaign light up Obama drug-use story?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As she engages in pathetic attacks on the teenager Obama was 30 years ago, she will be left in the dust by the man Obama is today.

Chickens coming home to roost
[Read the article: Rev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anyone who doubts that American foreign policy actions was responsible for 9/11 need only read the actual words of Osama bin Laden in a 1998 interview with ABC news:
"The call to wage war against America was made because America has spear-headed the crusade against the Islamic nation, sending tens of thousands of its troops to the land of the two Holy Mosques over and above its meddling in its affairs and its politics, and its support of the oppressive, corrupt and tyrannical regime that is in control. These are the reasons behind the singling out of America as a target."
Note that, despite the familiar mantra of American patriotism, bin Laden made no mention about wanting to attack us because of our "freedoms".
