People with conviction.
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]People with convictions do not argue that "my opponent does it too.
Shooter not only has no convictions, he actually gets confused when he encounters people who do. This whole thread started when he pointed out that Obama had come out in favor of intervention in Pakistan. It never occured to him that there might be disagreement among Democrats as to whether this was wise. He also is oblivious to the fact that the inhabitants of this comment section are not all Democrats. He assumed that we'd all agree with Obama and therefore he'd have a gotchya because if anyone who favors intervention in Pakistan must favor it in Iraq. When that didn't work, he had to invoke Lebanon in the hopes that he could draw someone into a contradiction.
The fact remains that he personally considers all Muslims to be his enemy. His argument is with anyone who doesn't and to him they're all the same.

Neocon Koolaid....
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But if he has no problem adopting this horrible concept of the neocons, what other of their tools will he also find attractive?
Joe Klein approves.

Unfortunately the battle in this country isn't between the Democrats and the Republicans. It's between "conventional wisdom" and common sense. While I think the Democratic approach to war-mongering is likely to be slightly less evil, if only because Democrats are capable of thinking logically and responding to changing events on the ground, the fact remains that as long as people think that it's acceptable for governments to engage in behaviors that would be Capital Crimes if performed by individuals, then we have a serious problem.

I'm not a libertarian
[Read the article: Various items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But I did once get mistaken for one here and it still stings. The main reason it matters, of course, is because I was suddenly turned on by people who's opinion I respect a great deal. I also happen to think that the crisis our nation is currently facing is sufficiently dire, that we shouldn't be discouraging anyone who cares to lend a hand, no matter what we think of their motives. Just my .02 USD.

Correct me if I'm wrong.....
[Read the article: Mike Allen and Hugh Hewitt on the politicization of the military]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But aren't there actually guidlines in place designed to prevent the Army from engaging in Psy-Ops against the American people? Because the last time I checked there was a word for waging war against the American people though its not commonly used when describing the activities of the Military. (Certain hatemongers of course throw the word around like penny candy when desribing their fellow countrymen who happen to dislike violence.)
I speak of course of Treason.

@cincinatus
[Read the article: Mike Allen and Hugh Hewitt on the politicization of the military]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What concerns me more than the administration's attempts to tell their story is that no one in the media seems to have any interest in telling the WHOLE story; they just seem to want to present one side or, at best, both sides without context
You sound sincere, so I'll put it to you this way. If there were a whole bunch of good-news human interest stories available to tell in Iraq we'd be hearing them 24/7. This is for two reasons. One (as all we cynics know) because in comports with what the governement WANTS the media to be reporting and the networks are quite happy not to make waves (see embedding - note the root - to be in bed with). The second reason is the fact that there are 150,000 Americans over there with concerned families over here and if there were an abundance of happy human interest stories, they'd sell like hotcakes.
The reality is that warfare does bad things to good people and the news coming out of Iraq sucks simply because the situation in Iraq sucks. End of story.

Note to self
[Read the article: Democrats' responsibility for Bush radicalism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It would be a lot more diffucult to portray Democrats as the party of appeasment and surrender if they would STOP SURRENDERING!
The left wing of thge party isn't the least bit extreme in what they want for the country. They're just tired of habitual capitualtion. Keep shouting folks. It's bound to have an effect one of these years!

It's always about August
[Read the article: The strong and tough Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of course if it weren't for the recess, this bill would never have seen light of day. The best way to get bad legislation passed is to time it so it can't be properly debated. Most of the worst travesties of the last six years have this in common. Even the Iraq war itself was hurried for no other reason than making sure that the invasion didn't happen in the summertime.
Glenn certainly right to point out that if Fred (no war too big or small) Hiatt disapproves then it must be REALLY bad.

LWM highlights an important point.
[Read the article: The strong and tough Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]including the important issue of providing meaningful liability protection to those who are alleged to have assisted our Nation following the attacks of September 11, 2001.
This legislation, like several examples before it, is being put in place to legalize actions that are ALREADY TAKING PLACE. All the more reason for a proper debate and investigation to have taken place. The whole thing is so transparent that even Fred Hiatt couldn't ignore it.

I was wondering....

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Please demonstrate with a link to any comment you have made on this site that might give anyone some indication you actually care more about America than your party, that America means something to you beyond a gameboard to be taken.
how shooter would react to a comment thread full of people complaining about the Democrats based on adherence to core principles rather than Party loyalty.
Unsurprisingly he simply failed to notice.
