Why would we waste time

speculating on the religious intolerance of American Muslims in a survey when we have a genuine example of religious intolerance spouting off before our eyes?

Out of sight - out of mind.

No one is suggesting that Muslim extremism isn't a problem but GB's obsessive behavior is MUCH more immediate and obvious.

In another window, I'm looking for information on how evolution has shaped risk-assessment among humans. No luck yet, but I'm confident that what I find will bear directly on our current conversation.

Paranoia - its not just for breakfast anymore!

So many lies - so little time.

Is there some reason Christians can be confronted but not Muslims?

No.

You're lying. Muslims are confronted often, Next?

That's why we're all so confused.....

Our civil liberties should not be compromised in any way, nor should people be detained without cause, or tortured for any cause. I don't know what straw man you think you've been fighting but my opposition to Islam is squarely based in Islam's violent, illiberal intolerance; I have no desire to see America become the thing it is fighting.

Since you beleive these things, then the question comes back to "What are you trying to accomplish here"" and more importantly "why do you continue to fail to notice when you actually get what you want?"

We're all against religious oppression. We're all against unjustified violence. but we're also against the broad brush condemnation of entire populations for the alleged sins of a subset of it members.

By insisting loudly and often that we condemn Islam, your commiting the same sin that your using to justify your position. It's why I quoted scripure at the beginning of the thread.

You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye

Because it speaks directly to the process that war-cheerleaders use to rally the masses.

Humans act first and think (and justify) after the fact.

I had to check the date of the poll to make sure, but its less surprising that Americans support bombing civillian populations because we're already engaged in the activity. I'm curious as to what the results would have been in August 2000.

Don't those numbers shock you?

What about you, Paul? Don't those numbers shock you?

No. There's a big difference between expressing sympathy for a cause to a pollster and strapping explosives around your waist on the way to Wal-Mart. None of the Muslims I encounter in my day-to-day life strike me as being anything other than people earning a living and getting on with life. That's because that's what they are. There are peaceful and violent people among any group you care to describe. I'm personally afraid of 18-24 year old males. If you want to single out a group that's prone to violence - there's your subset right there!

Comic book thinking.....

they don't naturally think of attacks on domestic soil, but rather American foreign policy in developing countries?

There are probably 5 different senses of the term by which Americans can be described as "sheltered". I'm no exception - I've lived almost 50 years but have only heard gunfire about five times and have only seen 1 fatal explosion. While Michelle Malkin and her friends aren't completely ignorant, most of their audience is. In all this discussion about the evil Muslims, what proportion of the participants even know any?

But hatred is big business. Who am I to stand in the way of commerce?

Wednesday, May 23, 2007 10:17 AM

Exactly. Let's see you people treat Muslims as badly as you do Christians

OK.....

Anybody who believes that the creator of the Universe loves them but hates other people is an evil moron. Present company included.

Are the numbers lying?

No you are.

Conflating "supporting" with "refusing to condemn" is completely dishonest. You've already been called on it twice. You continue to do it.

You are officially a liar.

As well as a OCD sufferer but thats a separate issue.

From the survey......

Views about terrorism are broadly shared by all segments of the Muslim American population, but the polling does find pockets of support for extremism. Overall, just 5% of Muslim Americans express even somewhat favorable opinions of al Qaeda. Yet strong hostility toward al Qaeda varies widely – 63% of foreign-born U.S. Muslims say they have a very unfavorable opinion of al Qaeda, compared with 51% of all native-born Muslims, and just 36% of African American Muslims.

More generally, native-born African American Muslims are the most disillusioned segment of the U.S. Muslim population. When compared with other Muslims in the U.S., they are more skeptical of the view that hard work pays off, and more of them believe that Muslim immigrants in the U.S. should try to remain distinct from society. They also are far less satisfied with the way things are going in the United States. Just 13% of African American Muslims express satisfaction with national conditions, compared with 29% of other native-born Muslims, and 45% of Muslim immigrants.

I honestly wonder if this is something Michelle Malkin and the other fear-mongers are inclined to play up (because it plays up to the inherent racism of their audience) or play down (because it interferes with the foriegn jihadist cartoon were supposed to be quaking in our boots over).
