I always find it interesting when wingnuts serve up sentences such as this one:
The Democratic party will then have served its purpose, in that they will have destroyed America.
It of course presumes that there is something called "America" that somehow doesn't include Democrats. I find this very confusing because the America I know is of course much bigger than the one that this writer appears to be referring to. Tthe fact that her conception cheapens and taints our great nation is a sad byproduct of this mode of thinking....
alas....
What a dipstick. I don't know much about him, but I can't help thinking he's one of those Reagan babies..came of age during Reagan's presidency, and, pathetically, genuinely doesn't have a clue how the world really works.
For not knowing much about him, you sure have him pegged. I suppose its fitting. After all Jonah is to political commentary, what Heraldo is to journalism...the first name that pops to mind when your trying to come up with a punchline!
which is likely to embarrass the President regardless of how it "supports the troops."
Its about embarrassing all the warrior wannabe's clinging to our soldier's coattails without actually giving a rats-ass about their welfare.
is that they convey a extra sense of inevitability that is absent when one is simply discussing politics in general. I still view 2003 as a documentable case of mass hysteria from which we are still in the process of recovery.
What makes this phase so interesting though, is that as a greater proportion of people come to their senses and start seeing the world clearly, those who are left behind just become more hostile and more ridiculous.
Of course, we're not completely out of the woods yet, but it interesting to watch the transformation.
More importantly it is a community of people devoted to the discovery and dissemination of knowlege. As such, it's especially valuable that information be able to flow freely even if that information is of questionable value. To try and silence Insta-moron would give aid and comfort to people like David Horowitz whose efforts to silence academics HE disagrees with are well documented.
so perhaps I should let it pass but..
You all want to restrict Glenn Reynolds' speech a lot more than anybody ever proposed limiting Ward Churchill's speech
I found it interesting that someone would feel so bold as to come in and spout a lie that could be refuted by simply reading the comments surrounding it.
that there were plenty of people who considered superstring theory unscientific for just the reason cited. They are not accessable to experiment and are therefore not YET falsifiable.
This hasn't stopped such theories from being considered scientific, not for several decades
your wingnut impersonations are so spot-on....
I routinely subject myself to the pain that is watching Bill O'Reilly's program, and I would say that he is 100% sincere when he says something like that....mbf
Once again I get carried back to my JR High days when we were taught all the differences between the mean nasty Soviet Union and the good upright United States of America. Of course the independence of the press was one of the ideals that was held up as a reason to hold the US in such high esteem. It appears that the collapse of the USSR has been accompanied with the collapse of all those American ideals that used to set us apart.
you use a person's own words as the most potent weapon against them
I appreciate the more thorough, lawyerly approach you take on these issues.
One of the most important things that the internet brings to the table (other than blogs in general and greater empowerment to "normal" people in particular) is the fact that most of recent histpry is online and searchable.
Of course, as more people realize that the things they say and write can come back to haunt them years later, a little more care might go into putting words out there in the first place. Until that realization hits home however, there will be no shortage of idiocy available for the picking.
came back from the copy editor that way...
Has Wolffe never studied American history or taken a civics class? What are journalism schools requiring these days?
I'm not really sure what historical forces have brought us to this point but the fact that Congress hasn't declared war in 66 years makes it easier for people to forget that little detail the founding Fathers wrote to make sure that the executive didn't use his command of the armed forces to thwart the will of the people......oh wait!
Have you ever thought of taking your alter-ego over to Protein Wisdom or LGF. I think it would be a riot if you put up 4-5 posts and then abrubtly unmask.
and ask softball questions of the head basketball coach after a tough loss to the instate rival.
But everone knows that there's no such thing as a tough loss....there's only victories that haven't happened as yet because we haven't given them a proper chance.
At some point, will war supporters accept the reality that they are in a small and shrinking fringe group? Is there any event or any data at all that can make them come to terms with that reality?
um....no.....
There is of course the possibilty of their creating a bandwagon effect by allowing people think they're part of a larger movement. And as long as WaPo and NYT are willing to play along, they could get away with it.
