If you read the thread...
[Read the article: Your modern-day Republican Party]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Then you know that most of the readers here are VERY interested in finding out how the democratic candidates would resond to the same question.
Once again, we need to explain. Its NOT A GAME. Freedom for ALL Americans is at stake and if it were the Democrats who were trashing the place, they'd be called on it as well.

Interesting how your tone changes through the course of the post.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is incredibly dishonest to claim that there is not a "shred of evidence" showing that Americans favor withdrawal from Iraq and that, now that the Glorious Surge is in place, Americans are satisfied with our ongoing occupation.
Up toward the top, it seemed you were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and allow that he might be simply delusional or in denial. It isn't until the update when you flat out call him a liar......Not that there's anything wrong with that.. ;-)

Is there really polling to suggest that most Americans are ready to pull the plug on Gen. Petraeus' strategy and mission?
If not, isn't it high time this talking point was challenged?

"For all the Rove-built facade of his being a 'strong' chief executive, George W. Bush has been, by comparison to even hapless Jimmy Carter, the weakest, most out of touch president in modern times," Gold writes. "Think Dan Quayle in cowboy boots."
Gold is even more withering in his observations of Cheney. "A vice president in control is bad enough. Worse yet is a vice president out of control."

[Read more letters about this article: Here]even if doing so means the US would have to accept defeat, which would almost certainly lead to defeat in Afghanistan and, within a few years, the radicalization of Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt and other countries?
Lessee....what could cause us to lose in Afghanistan?? Oh YEAH! Pulling out before the job is done! In order to invade Iraq!
What a tool!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]This quote from TPM made me realize...
But can we at least wait until there's a single shred of evidence that this is happening at all, much less that the public disapproves of it, before we report that Republicans are "gleeful" about it?
When he said "a shred of evidence" he actually meant "any shredded evidence"
We need to stay in Iraq until we have enough confetti with which to celebrate our glorious victory! Keep shredding boys! Victory's just around the corner.

Here's my letter:
Since your Corner posts are the topic d’jour over at Glenn Greenwald, I thought I would join the chorus of folks questioning your recent posts. I’d like to take a different tack from the others however. I found the following phrasing from your second post to be the most interesting:
even if doing so means the US would have to accept defeat, which would almost certainly lead to defeat in Afghanistan and, within a few years, the radicalization of Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt and other countries?
Since I was under the distinct impression that we diverted manpower and resources from Afghanistan in order to invade Iraq in the first place, I’m a little confused how you can imply that withdrawing from Iraq would be harmful to our efforts there. After all, it seems to me that the best way to prevent the radicalization of Pakistan would be to defeat the terrorists who are using it as a safe haven. Like it our not, our activities in Iraq do absolutely nothing to further that cause.
Needless to say, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on this subject.
Sincerely,
Paul H. Dirks

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Shooter's going to declare that Rich Lowry is really an anti-war liberal.
Oh sorry, that would involve reading comprehension.
The founders placed the power to declare war and fund the army directly in the body that was most answerable to the people. They understood the danger inherent in placing the power of the military budget in the hands of the executive. Many people today also understand this. Many of them are conservative. Rudy Giuliani is not among them. Nor apparently is shooter. Imagine my surprise.
