Because in a few weeks, the USA will be in another war, with Iran.

Everything else will fade to black. Like sheep, we'll faithfully watch the boob tube, trying to understand what it all means. Pundits will try to tell us.

While it appears that the adminstration has not only learned nothing but is actively blocking contrary perception. And while it appears that its enablers in the media are still trying very hard to make things right by ignoring contrary perceptions. The fact remains that the American People are officially fed up.

You can even detect it by simply reading what the trolls write here. The disconnect between the hate-r-us worldview and reality is widening daily.

  • Save those links....

Each one of these posts about The Politico - not just here but elsewhere - will chip away at its credibility and prevent it from holding itself out as some sort of objective, professional newspaper as it deliberately spews right-wing Drudge filth

One of the more useful things about the internet is that it doesn't forget. It's a phenomenon that Glenn uses to great effect when he's able to find and link things that people have written that are polar opposite to things that they are currently writing.

It's something to keep in mind as one composes letters-to-the-editor and such. Few things create more discomfort than glaring contradictions laid out side by side for all to see.

  • Also OT but interesting

Citing the national security letters and recent inspector general criticism of FBI reporting of terrorist cases and of weapons and laptops lost, Specter said, "Every time we turn around there is another enormous failure by the bureau."

"Thereā€˜s another headline virtually on a daily basis," Specter said, citing a Washington Post report Tuesday that agents submitted inaccurate data to a court that issues warrants for foreign intelligence surveillance

One wonders if Specter is actually concerned about the agency's conduct or merely it's propensity to get caught by the WaPo...

I can't resist commenting on this

Too many investigations into White House wrongdoing will alienate voters!

This is a classic case of Lucy and the football. Without even bringing up Monicagate, the number of truly despicable things that have been said about Democrats in general and war-opponents in particular in the last six years would fill several encyclopedias. But the instant it becomes clear that the American public is sick of it to the point that both houses of Congress change hands, all of the sudden the Democrats are suppose to put on kid gloves and play nice? I think not!

  • Shooter would have a point..

if every word he uttered weren't contradicted by facts

What actually coming to light is the low hanging fruit. Six years is a long time to operate with impunity. Under those conditions it could happen to anyone. Fortunatly our founders understood human nature well enough to realize that the best way to preserve freedom was to set power against itself.

For once the system is finally working.

  • An accident of history

In a time when we are supposedly facing the gravest and most epic War Ever to Save our Very Civilization, they are demanding that scarce law enforcement resources be squandered on the pettiest though still quite invasive and liberty-infringing matters.

It's truly remarkable that the Republican party is a coalition of people who think that what they do with their money is no one's damn business and people who think that what goes on in their neighbors bedroom is precisely their business.

I can't explain the contradiction. But I'm one of those who tends to think that its ALL none of their damn business!

Most notably of all, with our country waging extremely brutal wars and threatening still new ones, detaining tens of thousands of people around the world, and plagued by a deeply lawless and corrupt government

Its always good to be reminded....

Its not a football game! There are real lives at stake. In one sense, the purgegate scandal is a distraction but it is helpful if it reminds people of one salient fact...These people are NOT to be trusted!

  • I've always known

how the current fascist movement was opposed to conservative ideals, but to have them come right out and admit it and then defend it anyway takes a special degree of gall.

(By the way - I dislike the word "authoritarian" because it skirts what the movement actually represents.)

I've always felt that our best hope to save the nation was to peel off the genuine conservatives and show them how they too have been betrayed. There are a few examples (hasn't George Will come around?) but as today's column shows, we still have a long way to go.

  • man...leave for an hour or two and it all just stacks up!

I get the feeling that -2 showed up just to make shooter seem reasonable in comparison. The odd thing is that it worked.

I spend little time here defending liberal positions or (more importantly liberal politicians) here, because the sad fact is, human nature being what it is, ANYBODY who has access to unchecked power is going to end up abusing it. That's why tit-for-tat arguments about what Bill Clinton may or may not have done are quite beside the point. (He was, after all, in favor of the clipper chip - no civil libertarian he).

The important point is that the check and balances written into the Constitution are now in danger. Bushco has done as much as they can to insulate the executive branch from accountability and now its coming back to bite them. The next year is going to be the key to whether our Republic survives in recognizable form.

Your comment actually speaks to the heart of the problem. We often speak and think that way. "Iran" is being intransigent in not allowing inspectors. The "US" sees this as a problem and "Russia" has its own interests at heart. But when the bombs start falling, the people who's lives are being snuffed out underneath them have very little to say about whether "Iran" should perhaps been a little more cooperative.
