Now we're denying our troops the resources necessary to PREVENT DEFEAT. Everytime Senator McCain speaks, I feel the need to have an attorney present. How slick is he for not mentioning the "W" word (winning). He accidently spoke the truth.
Fear and Loathing in Washington - McCain must be relying on the premise that no matter how bad things are, the American people remain feebly uninformed and will put him in the White House if he stays "on message". It worked for Bush, so why not for him. While the road up to the last election was mired with adminstration failures, scandals, lies and more lies and all things impeachable, we toddered off to the voting booths to ask for more of the same.
Fool me once, shame on YOU - twice, shame on ME! Anyone for thirds?
Poor Don! He really has been on the precipice for a long time. I know that he's good guy and probably what you see is what you get. He has clearly fought long and hard against his own addictive personality. This time he lost. He may have settled for treatment rather than recovery, I don't really know . Those who do however hold onto "old ideas", many of which have been proven toxic if not terminal. One such idea is "I'd rather be right than be happy". Mabye Don's trying to float that balloon as we speak. Another facile notion for treatment is "honesty above all else", while those in recovery know that "honesty without love is just another license to abuse". His woeful and PUBLIC attempt at contrition and amends with Reverend Al revealed a crippling lack of humility as well as a glaring lack of practice and ability to genuinely admit wrong and make amends.
Hey Don..."Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage"? Pink Floyd - WISH YOU WERE HERE
Maybe McCain spent too much time on the phone with Don Imus. You can't catch that bad a case of stupid off a toilet seat.
As we speak, Congress is snarling and growling and nipping away at every flank of a Presidential legacy that may likely be exposed as a cabal and its members, criminals. This paranoid little band of clever, messianic evildoers has contaminated every facet of our relationship with all other global inhabitants and the President’s “what me worry” stance is the poison.
When history looks at Abu Ghraib under the long lens of crimes against humanity (and it will), Bush may even get a pass because he's so intellectually stunted, NO ONE would believe he's read or even misunderstood Plato, Hobbes, Nietzche, Heidegger or the hardly-seminal Leo Strauss. Oh sweet irony – that this nation of immigrants, initially gathered to seek tolerance, is acting out a vision perfected in the very cauldron of history that drove Leo Strauss from the Vaterland to Paris in 1932.
In Richard L. Rubenstein’s towering and radical essay "The Cunning of History", he proposes that Nazism was not an aberration but a predictable manifestation of a pathogen lurking in the very bloodstream of Western Civilization. When I first read that work, my concern was that our nation not be victimized. How sophomoric I was in my refusal to imagine that America might not someday become the perpetrator.
The President and a few feckless, titular appointees at Defense and State, appear as Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern in a yet another deadly drama that religious and ideological zealots have instigated from the Crusades right up through Nazi Germany. There are a couple of perilous “n” words in play here. NeoCon is surely one of them!
What a curious choice of words - and episode - Ms. Perino called it, when describing the tawdry, staged extravaganza, the “Mission Accomplished” hoax starring the faux warrior-pilot and absentee National-Guard dilettante. Because so many people have since perished, this episode can’t be from a soap opera or old serial western – so what’s in a name anyway and what is an episode?
Breaks from reality in those afflicted with mental disorganization (characterized by faulty ego structures) are referred to as episodes. You Tell Me!!! Was the fictional purchase of nuclear materials in Africa cited in the State of the Union address just another episode in the life of the boy-king? Was the contrived fantasy linking Saddam and Al Quaida another? Was the warning of imminent danger during the summer of 2001 overlooked or disregarded during yet another episode?
Ms. Perino continues to demonstrate brand of loyalty to this President that often proves toxic. I hope it serves her well when President has occasion to publicly declare his complete confidence in her while she meanwhile ponders a likely bevy of subpoenas or spends her days with her attorney(s) trying to “unspin” the spin in the courtroom of history on matters foreign and domestic from possible war crimes to bungling illegal emails.
When this administration speaks, the intellectual mire bubbling up between the lies and the incompetence almost looks inviting! Perhaps we should feel better knowing that prior to her ascendancy from the Council on Environment Quality to the Queen of Spin, Ms. Perino kept herself sufficiently informed about fall of Baghdad – and episode (should we survive it) that will redirect civilization throughout this millennium. It is true indeed, that “Baghdad did fall very quickly”. On the other hand, the President’s statement characterizing the fall of Baghdad – “In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed” was a lie then, it’s a lie now no SPIN can render it truthful. Welcome to the White House!
