You are missing the bigger picture (forgive the pun)

Botox was originally researched as a PAIN RELIEVING DRUG that worked when no other pain reliever could (even if you were ok knowing from the very beginning that you will end up addicted to narcotics and such). I have suffered from severe cluster migraines since I was 10 years old. I am now 40. As far down the maternal line as my family can remember we all suffer from this. I was told it would stop when I hit puberty, then when I finished with puberty, then when I would get pregnant. I guess now I'm just waiting for menopause. I have done everything, tried every method - regardless how crazy it sounds, but nothing works. I get a "small" migraine once a week and a "big" one at least once a month (3 days out of commission). Now here's Botox - Invented and researched for people like me (and those with other forms of permanent nerve induced pain). When Botox works on people like us (and it does - an astonishing 89% of the time), we can go pain free for 6 MONTHS. If you've never experienced constant pain before, you have no idea how debilitating it is. But, of course, I am lumped in with those who want it for cosmetic reasons - even though the areas of the injection are completely different, and even though, if it works, the insurance company will actually save an astronomical $5000 per month that they pay right now in meds, injections, preventative treatments, and ER visits when things are really, really awful.

This is a bait-and-switch argument. It's a little like arguing that since anti-epilepsy drugs were proven to lower anxiety (and therefore lead to a smoother forehead) they should no longer be covered because people use it for cosmetic reasons as well as the original intended use.

Sorry if I sound combative. I am just sick of being sick.

what baffles me

As I read this article, it became clear that it was not attempting to focus ONLY on the sexual abuse (factors which often include previous experience as an abused child, a distorted sense of self and self worth, and playing out issues of power with someone who has no chance of hurting you). Arguably, sex molesters are to be looked at individually and dealt with their individual pathologies on a case by case basis.

I am much more intrigued by Kissling's mention of casual and even brutal physical violence towards these children. I am a clergy person myslef and have never felt the need to assert my power or authority in this manner - Not being a Christian, I am not sure where that kind of (im)morality comes from. The vast majority of the religious workers I know are by and large sweet people who want to make an impact in their wards' lives.

I don't see how it is possible to reconcile christian doctrine with such obvious power play against a fragile memeber of society to whom you are trying to prov God's love - at the time that he sees YOU as pretty much the embodiment of God on Earth.

@Elephantman

There is a "birth certificate" in a so-called long form, that likely exists, in Hawaii, that no one has seen. And Obama could order it released, but he hasn't.

I don't think anyone is arguing it doesn't exist. In fact, if I understand correctly, it exists in both electronic AND paper form. Obama can reqest to see it, but if he were to ask for it, all he would get is a copy - and off we go again.

More importantly is the list of documents they want next... elementary school records. God help me, but whenever I apply to a new position, I have to re-order my graduate school records. Maybe that makes me slightly irresponsible, but a forgerer? (in fact, if I was trying to create a conspiracy to get to the white house, I would make damn sure I had all my tee's crossed and all my i's dotted.

As far as Gary what's his name - he also was a strong promoter of the 9/11 conspiracy. Frankly, I make it a rule to take the first conspiracy advocated by someone seriously enough to look things up and engage in it, but after that they lose credibility.

Finally, there would have to be such vast number of people who are in on this conspiracy that you KNOW it would be leaked. Heck the only person who knew about Governer Sanford's indiscretion in Argentina was four. Maybe 5. And it still got out. Get real. Please,,,
