@T. Gray

I was going to comment on how awful this son was being to his father, but your comment just stole that thought.

As parents, we're expected to monitor what our kids watch and read. It's our freaking job. My son can't be expected to know what's best for him, and he needs me to say what's okay and what's not.

The library's job is to shelf every book they can without judging it's content.

Do you really believe that a parent should let their young child bring home whatever book the child wants?

I'm flabbergasted.

bloomers?

What if they went from no visible underwear on her to visible underwear instead of visa-versa?

And what if they had taken a healthy-weight child and put an unhealthy/obese child in her place?

Would these have been "improvements?"

this should put an end to

Once and for all, the talk about Kobe being in Michael's league. When Michael faced a 66 win team in the finals, the Bulls blew the Sonics out of the water.

Michael never came close to losing a Finals, not to mention being on the wrong side of this type of rout. In the end, the C's thoroughly outclassed the Lakers. I can't even imagine that happening to MJ. Because it never did.

Not even a year of school

One and done's aren't even looking at a full year of school. They leave at the end of the season to go workout. They start their second semester classes with no intent to finish them. They have to go workout full-time and market themselves to potential employers by April at the latest.

nothing new

Women "have turned to pregnancy as a way to find companionship, a purpose and supposedly unconditional love," since the dawn of man, err... woman. And until extremely recently, both politically but especially from an evolutionary standpoint, these women have been under 20.

These girls are guilty of being extraordinarily stupid to buy into "babies are FUN!" but it's not like they have broken any laws or conspired to do something illegal (or unusual.) "was it a pact or not?!" This isn't a mafia trial.

Now the statutory rapists... that's another story.

Nice Blazers trade

With Rodriguez coming in, there really wasn't room for Jack on the roster and for him we got: another Point. But I think it will be okay as Bayless has some nice potential. McRoberts wasn't doing anything, so no real loss there. And somehow... we got Diogu!? That's a steal.

Reading that 2005 column, I had to cry a little over passing up Chris Paul and getting Webster. And later Channing Frye. Not that there's anything wrong with those two, but damn... Chris Paul was there for the taking.

Why is there still a second round?

The more I read about the draft today and ponder the fact that I too was disappointed that the Blazers got the 13th pick - instead of moving up in the lottery where they could get someone who could really contribute - I have to wonder, why are we still bothering with a second round?

And what is the fundamental change that happened to reduce the yearly numbers of people who could come in and contribute? Is it the addition of International players in numbers we didn't see before? (I'm thinking back to say, the 80's.)

and a month ago...

This story came out a few days before the Oregon Primary, which was May 20th. And Erickson still won. It was all over the local news here in Portland leading up to the Primary. (Granted, because of vote by mail, a lot of people had already turned in their ballots.)

an exchange

"I'm voting for Barack Obama instead of Senator Clinton because I think he's the better candidate."

"That's because you're a sexist even if you don't know it. You just subconsciously don't think a woman can do the job."

"No, that's not it. I really think Obama is a once in a lifetime candidate, and I would have supported him over anyone in the field. I even supported him over the other eight males."

"Denying that you're sexist is again sexist. You actually think vaginas are repulsive."

"Um, okay." :backs slowly out of the room:

---------------

And by the way, the use of the word "hysterical" really is sexist.

Female behavior is irrelevent to this

Boys are perpetually aroused. This has absolutely nothing to do with what girls are wearing. Back in the day the sight of a girl's ankles was considered suggestive. Think about that for a second. It takes next to nothing to make a young male aroused. A light breeze. Waking up. Seeing girls. Thinking about girls... eating. Working. School.

It doesn't matter! Boys are aroused. Next time you see a 14 year old boy, he's thinking about sex. I promise you.

No shit!

How about "10 things you can do besides beating up your family this Holiday!"

Men who use violence against women or children (or anybody really) are small-dicked losers. And even the neanderthals at Fox should be able to tell that simple truth.

Piling on...

My wife is a total hottie who plays WoW, and our guild is made up of a small group of friends, five of whom are women, two men.

Playing games together is a great way to bond. If the game is Pacheesi, cards, or computer games isn't as relevant as just playing together.

And nothing says 'I love you' like epic gear in the mailbox. (Wait, that sounded sexual, and wasn't meant to be!)

This is revolting

Reveling in the entrails of your victims doesn't make you enlightened, it makes you a fucking monster.

Pigs are kind, intelligent mammals, which is more than I can say for the staff at Salon right now.

Hope you enjoy your heart disease.

@lucienrau

You're right that there are all sorts of ethical and moral issues surrounding food, and they deserve attention from people who have consciences.

My question for you is: if all those things are important, isn't deciding NOT to take the lives of sentient creatures for your food a good place to start?

Sure there are many vegetarians who could do more. But what's your excuse for not taking the really easy step of simply eating something else?
