You do realize that when the losing candidate takes it to the convention, as in 1980, that we lose, right? Like 68 & 72 before that? Those elections are precisely WHY people have been clamoring for the candidate who was obviously losing for the past three months to gracefully bow out and support the nominee.
Now that he's ~actually~ secured more delegates than he needs for the nomination, isn't it reasonable to ask her to show some grace?
The day after it's 100% decided, we'll take a firm stand. And still be kinda wishy-washy about it cause we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
I'm so happy to hear that other people are sick of the "thrown under the bus" phrase. That phrase is so May. ;-)
My party just elected the first african american presidential nominee who happens to be the best candidate I've had the pleasure of supporting in my entire life.
Today is a happy day to be sure.
I feel rather sorry for the alternate universe democrats who are so bitter about their preferred candidate losing the race (I'd be upset, too) that they are
- threatening to vote for the republican or not vote, as though the principles that Hillary Clinton has fought so hard to achieve are that irrelevant to their support of her
- claiming that the race isn't ~really~ over, because technically we decide who the nominee is at the Convention to which I can only wonder, "what color is the sky where you are?" Seriously. This delusion is rather frightening.
- Bashing the shit out of Obama personally, truth be damned. This leads me to believe that we're merely seeing the results of the Republican efforts to plant malcontents in internet message boards frequented by the left. So indigo, jeb et al - you're fakes. You're doing a good job, but you're still fakes. Posting links to other places where there's anti-Obama propaganda is a dead giveaway.
But my party and my country are looking ahead. We're hoping that our government can be as good as our country. That we can have a President who restores dignity to the office and restores America's place of respect in International Relations.
Today is a great progressive victory, and it shall not be sullied by the republican plants or the hardcore Clinton supporters who are naturally feeling the sting of defeat today.
Last night was a victory for progressive values, the Democratic Party, and indeed all of America.
What's wrong with looking like a man?
It is a newsworthy story that this guy Rezko, who has a certain amount of ambiguous fame as a sleezebag who has worked with Obama, was just convicted.
So long as the story mentions that no one suspects that Obama has done a damned thing wrong, I don't see a problem with reporting it.
And NOT reporting it might look like it was being swept under the rug.
Fine reporting, Alex. Your blog is one of the best out there covering current political news.
"Cunt brings the art of anything."
I want that T-Shirt.
The St. Louis Arch. It's even described as a gateway.
I'm flabbergasted that Hillary isn't being called to task for the feelings she tried her damnedest to engender in her followers. It wasn't so much that she ran for the last three months even though it was over(in the real world) it was that she attacked and divided. The division is a direct result of her actions. Her whining. Her unfair attacks and innuendo.
You say she found her cause in feminism kinda late... exactly! Just when she thought she could use it as a wedge issue. And it paid off - big time. She's done exactly the kind of damage to our party's nominee that she was trying to do. Did she have to misrepresent him as the oppressive patriarchy? No. She chose to do that. Despite the fact that Obama's feminism is probably 10 times more genuine than her's.
So now after all the damage was done - damage that we "obamatons" predicted she'd do three months ago - it's now Obama's responsibility to make amends. Amazing.
But you know what? He will. Because he's a big enough person to be the one that reaches out and mends fences. He will because he's the kind of person that we can hope to have as President. He'll be the one to make peace because that's the type of person he is. Hillary? Not so much. After all, it's everyone else's fault that she lost, so they all need to line up to kiss her ass.
What women say they want, and what they actually respond to are not the same things.
I'm not defending Hummer ownership by any stretch, but the bulk of the research tends to show that women respond to displays of wealth, the theory being that women are seeking security, and expensive cars indicate "this guy can take care of me."
I'm NOT saying it's true. Just what research has tended to show.
thanks for the heads-up. I thought it was funny, and I'll keep my eye out for new ones.
Anyone who's ever gone down from hitting the funny bone (artery) in their knee can relate. That hurts so bad, you think you're going to die. Then a little bit later, it doesn't. Everything's fine.
This happened to me in a 6th grade basketball game. Everyone thought I was faking after.
As with everything Ms. Traister writes, I agreed with about half of it.
But I gotta tip my hat. This was a freaking excellent, thought-provoking, well crafted article. I'm better for having read it.
One note: the best fictional character comparison is still the Black Knight from the Holy Grail. After all, she was done three months ago. She was either brave and tenacious or just a stubborn child, refusing to admit defeat and forcing Barack Obama to play out the rest of the game with her. Often, she was both.
