wait a second

While I might very well have missed the point of most of this article, I gotta say this about SATC and tearing them down:

They are thoroughly unlikable people - the four women on that show - and they are fictional characters. It's not okay to just randomly tear people down for fun, but they are fictional characters, and I reserve the right to dislike fictional characters in popular media. I'm not a fan of George Castanza, either, for the record.

And again for the record, I watched the first two seasons of SATC before deciding that I just didn't care what happened to any of them because none of them were likable. Carrie came the closest up to that point, but her obvious obsession with the amount of money her potential boyfriend had was so off-putting, that I called it.

And again...

Again a post on BS is something 98% of which I completely agree, yet I'm compelled to comment on that other 2%.

And my second preface is that I'm talking about non-bigoted, non-homophobic, progressive urbanites here - not the people ranting about how evil gay marriage is and calling Senator Clinton b**** & c***.

I'm a 36 year old male. I'm not ~that~ old yet. But I can tell you that my sexuality (well... sexuality like mine) is quite often the one that's the most disparaged in otherwise enlightened social circles. Women who actively pursue an adventurous sex life are "liberated." (rightly so!) gay men have their own cool just by virtue of being gay. Women and gay men can sit at a party and tell as many raunchy jokes as they want with no negative repercussions, but if the older straight male makes a similarly raunchy comment - he's sick, twisted, and perverted.

Men my age who pursue women 10 years younger than us are most definitely not considered "cool." We're considered disgusting and sleazy.

Maybe A-list hollywood actors can get away with it, but I guarantee you that attitude doesn't filter down to regular guys my age.

Oh and my vote

is for sexy, too. Unquestionably so.

We're ready

We may be way - WAY - past due for a female President, but the electorate is ready to vote for one. The chances of any one person becoming president are so long it's nuts, so it's difficult to predict one or another individual's path..

But when the right candidate comes along, the fact that she's female won't get in her way. I hope that's as soon as 2016 when Obama is Constitutionally prohibited from being re-elected again.

We currently have the Speaker of the House and the number two choice for one of the two major parties. There are many powerful and influential women in the country right now. Not enough, I grant you, but from that pool the stars will align just right for one of them soon. And the numbers are going to continue to increase. Parity will eventually reign.

This year is proof of it. We have a woman and a black man running a fairly close race to see which one will stomp all over the incredibly vulnerable Republican white male in November. Ready? We're all over it.

oh my gods, no

Your father's affair may have given you the wiggins, but it's not your business. It's his. Respect his privacy and his choices and never, ever let him know you invaded his private email.

Talk to your therapist about it. Talk to your husband, so long as he can keep the secret. But it's just not about you. Leave it alone.

oh holy crap with the righteousness

The person who has never ever cheated on a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife, or slept with someone who had a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife, can get in line to throw the first stone.

:crickets:

Lay off the Dad. Having affairs is downright normal if not also healthy. Good for him. And I hope his wife is having one or three herself. It's just good to hear people's love lives & passion don't disappear in their 60's.

Snooping into someone's private email account, however, is dastardly. The reading the Dad's email is FAR worse than the Dad having an affair.

in other words

Exactly the kind of Party division people suggested would happen if Clinton continued her destructive campaign.

yay! Legalized abortion was fun while it lasted, huh children? I can't wait for the Iran War!

Dumbasses.

As a fellow lapsed Catholic

I wholeheartedly approve of this message. And Kate, I'll see you in hell. Fire up the grill and suck down some margaritas? I hear it's hot there. We should be prepared. SPF 40 at least.

Original article: Big weekend news

This makes me sad

Watching Joan Walsh throw out snide "analysis" of Obama's personal relationship with his church and whine about Clinton not getting her (unreasonable) requests from the Rules committee...

It's called being a sore loser. Except you're doing it in front of so many people, and you look terrible. I frequently have to talk to my six year old about losing graciously. It's downright sad to have to scold the editor in chief of a respected publication for the same thing.

Are you going to vote for McCain out of spite as well?

uh-oh

"We control slightly more than half of the world's wealth (who knew?), and we make 83 percent of household purchasing decisions"

So that's it for claiming women are economically powerless, right?

The world is what we pay for. If women are spending 83% of the money, then women are to blame for this entire mess and must be relieved of power.

kidding. mostly.

ha!

This sounds like it's straight out of the Onion. Very funny.

Original article: We are what we buy

Loved the article

One point I wish the article had made is that every time you spend money, you're voting for how you want the world to be. Are you voting for fast food? Organic food? Child labor? Local products? Cheap plastic Chinese imports?

The kissing cousin of "you are what you buy" is "the world is what we pay for."
