But Camryn Manheim does get exercise
[Read the article: Big love]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and is generally physically fit. She eats well, and has low cholesterol. But, she is still fat. And her family feels about her fatness more or less as those who judge fatness here do. (I have inside knowledge.)
I'm not saying that people shouldn't get exercise, or eat well, or otherwise take care of themselves. In fact, one of my best friends does all of these things, much better than I do, and still cannot lose the weight. (Tho' I think she may have lost a few inches.) She did have a thyroid problem diagnosed a few years ago. Is it possible that the thyroid medication interferes with her ability to lose weight? I don't know. I do know what and how she eats and that she exercises nearly daily, aerobics, weights, etc.
There is something inherently unfair about my being able to get away with little to moderate exercise, while others go to the gym and do aerobics almost daily without seeing any results, and then feeling judged by others merely on the basis of their appearance, by people who don't know what they do.
What I am saying is that the so-called "evidence" has not been woman-based, and it is women we are talking about here. Men's and women's bodies behave and react differently to all kinds of things, but research has focused on men almost exclusively. Once the data is in on women, then I'll gladly update my opinion. At the moment, I am merely withholding it.

For another eloquent post on this topic
[Read the article: Lieberman, Bush: Can you tell them apart?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...see what Cenk Uygur has written at The Huffington Post-- addressing the increasingly dense MSM-- on why the Left really loathes Lieberman:

and why it's not just about the War.

Please pass the popcorn.

For once, I'll pile on, too...
[Read the article: Washington Post reporter plagued by PMS]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Personally, I have no interest in sampling a Wonder Bar, much less a case. Instead, I would very much like to see one David Segal reincarnated as a woman who suffers from really vicious PMS every month from age 12 to 50, seeks relief in a chocolate bar and is ridiculed by a catty man for packing on the pounds."
While you're at it, I'd like to suggest that he also have a middle-aged bladder, and have to wait in a long line for the ladies' room, while there is no line for the men's. (Or, even better, that he experience personally Louise Clifton's poem, "Wishes for Sons.")
As for hormones' effects, PMS does have some unhappy side-effects, but so far, there are (to my knowledge) no documented cases of starting pre-emptive wars, or aiding and abetting torture and rape around the world. My own observation is that PMS reactions tend to be over-reactions to things that merit some kind of reaction. Can't say the same about testosterone and war.
I don't know anything about the Wonder Bar, but suspect it includes soy (like the Luna Bar) so I probably couldn't eat it anyway. However, dark chocolate (fewer carbs!) actually has significant health benefits, including minerals such as magnesium, which contributes to one's mental health and sense of well-being.
Finally, if there is too little known about how to treat or deal with PMS, it is the fault of the medical research industry, which has for too many decades based most of its studies on men. How ridiculous is that!

It would be an interesting test case...
[Read the article: The suicide mission, or Katherine Harris runs for the U.S. Senate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]if... somehow... miraculously, she should win anyway.
Would the Democratic Party stand up and insist on having the votes recounted? Or would they just take it on the chin again-- exit polls be damned? ;~)
And would Karl Rove be able to spin with a straight face?
