  • What Americans don't know

[Read the article: Salon exclusive: The Abu Ghraib files]

I had to become a retired old man before taking the necessary time to read and learn the real history of the United States and its soul. What I learned was just about everything I was taught by my religious family and schools was pure fantasy and outright lies--all coming, I'm sure, from well-meaning, patriotic people. Most Americans are ignorant and blind, while being controlled and led by a wealthy class comprised of rotten souls only interested in furthering thier own wealth. American rulers spend most their time working with marketing people and bullshit artists convincing ignorant citizens that they live in the greatest country in the world. Hog wash...

I am amazed that some individuals still buy into the nice stories in our history books and more recently, King George's lies about 9/11 and the need to attack another country. Any human of average inelligence and an open mind knows that throughout our history our corporate and plitical leaders have used the CIA and military to invade and overthrow the governments of country after country and installing our chosen leaders--with the rationalization that they were spreading democracy and fighting socialism and Communism.

The US also maintains relationships with Israel and other countries that favor policies harmful to Arab countries--a difficult problem when they sit upon the black gold that the US needs to fuel its monster SUVs & Hummers. After 9/11 several Arab leaders told the world that this attack on the US was caused by King George's actions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Recall that after he took office he pulled diplomats out of the middle east and left for a 30 day golfing vacation. Israel then rolled their tanks and started blasting away... About two weeks later the US was hit by "terrorists." Many believe he was pleased, for now he could Attack Saddam, a dictator who the US put in power, but who wouldn't follow orders.

If interested, refer to "A People's History of the US," and some of William Blum's books, recently referred to by bin Ladden. Be prepared for some shocking insight into the US.

  • American Character is Flawed

[Read the article: Salon exclusive: The Abu Ghraib files]

In trying to understand how US citizens can participate in such disgusting behavior against their fellow humans, one only need observe daily life in America. Our government and corporate offices are full of arrogant criminals whose lives are spent filling their own pockets, while ignoring the welfare of the working class and society. This leadership has given Americans the most expensive, but worst quality healthcare of most modern countries, while denying millions any healthcare insurance at all. This leadership has given Americans a second rate education system. It's given us a system that ignores the needs of retired, elderly, and disabled citizens. It ignores single mothers desperate for support.

While millions of elderly Americans struggle to comprehend Bush's idiotic drug plan, which was designed to benefit dozens of drug companies rather than elderly citizens, while millions of Americans are homeless and going hungry, while dozens of government officials and corporate leaders and their friends are being investigated and indicted for corruption and fraud, while thousands die in an illegal war that costs taxpayers billions of dollars a week, while many US workers struggle to survive on a minimum wage so low they can't afford basics of life...the US Vice President, Dick Cheney, one of the greatest crooks in world, flies his staff and medical team to south Texas where he can go qail hunting on the ranch of a wealthy lobbyist. This, right after all the scandals about Tom DeLay, who prefers stealing from Americans and illegal world golfing vacations to working as a leader in the US Congress, and Abramoff who'd steel his grandmother's false teeth if he thought he could make a buck, and all the government officials who accepted his bribes.

Sorry fact is that we can only blame the American people for the current crisis, for after all, they are the ones who elected the incompetent and corrupt leaders of their country. That's the way it is in a democracy. The people must accept the responsibility.

Why should anyone be surprised at the US murder rate, police abuse, spousal abuse, child abuse, prisoner abuse... Laws do not control or protect people when they are not followed. And it's obvious that in America our corporate and political leaders live lives where their actions are above the law.

Sigmund Freud said that American Democracy and Capitalism was a great experiment, but was afraid it would never work. He understood human nature more than any other human being. The American system is in decline due to arrogance, greed, and corruption.

  • The Joys of Colonoscopies

[Read the article: I'm going in for a colonoscopy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It all sounds so easy when doctors talk about colonoscopies. Prior to my first colonoscopy, never in my life had I suffered hemmoroids. However, the first one resulted in a small hemmeroid. Some years later I had a second which exaserbated the problem--I was now a man suffering the joy of hemmorroids and all that entails.

Years later, diverticulitis required a sigmoid resection. I don't know what they shoved up my rectum, but whatever it was increased the hemerroid so that it now likes to protrude. This causes leakage problems, bleeding, and all the joys associated with this problem.

Conclusion: Medical procedures that require inserting hoses and other objects can damage the sensitive tissues and blood vessels around and in the rectum. I know... However, if one has certain symptoms, like dark blood, it might be necessary. Another less invasive way to just check out possible causes is with a barium treatment exam which a primary physician can order.
