Show your support and/or dissatisfaction for Congress/Obama healthcare reform (closest we've gotten in 60 years) by calling.
Obama is who he is. Right now he's what we've got. Bill Clinton says Obama is hitting the same wall of enmity and disinterest that he hit on health care. Obama may turn out great; we may rip him to pieces. With healthcare it's beside the point. Call

and Juliebird, don't give up hope. We accomplished a lot yesterday - there was a big enough push back, especially with the 60-signature Progressive letter - to get Sebelius and Obama back onto the Public Option. That was fast! I've been emailing and calling all yesterday and today (White House and Senate lines are always busy, but I eventually got through).........It feels great! Reaching live assistants, if available, is the best. You can hear them kind of go - hmmm?!
The polls showed a solid majority for Public Option, and that just hasn't changed much, even after the Town Hall meetings. Most of those people won't call or write - but we will, and plenty of other liberal sites like this. Just think what a great mini-network we have here for getting new info and numbers out to a (VERY!!!!!) vocal group.
Anybody who dumps on Obama while wanting real reform - wake up. You're shooting yourself in the foot. Obama is as inclined as any pol to follow the path of least resistance toward an agreed goal. Tell him where the goal is. Truman, Carter, Bill and Hillary have all failed, but we've never been closer to getting something of immense to value to the entire country. This is VERY different than 1993 - if we want it to be. We're smarter and more focused. Do it. You'll be glad you did.
Howard Dean intimated that the House could pass a Public Option Bill, and even if the Senate passes one without, it can be inserted into the final bill when the two bills are brought in line with each other. My biggest regret about Obama's cabinet was letting Rahm exclude Dean, who is a firecracker.
The Doctor is IN.
chock full of stuff to chew on. Thanks Mr. Madden.
Lots of people have been posting this all around Salon the last couple of days, but it bears repeating - and repeating - and repeating:
Any healthcare supporters who complain about the Dems and Obama this week, and don't pick up a phone or Gov. email link, are nuts. You don't want it. You wouldn't recognize it if you got it. You're too lazy and afraid to fight for it. These guys work for us. Remind them.
What the??? has been posting it all over - call, write, it feels great!
Lots of people have been posting this around Salon healthcare articles the last couple of days, so forgive - but it bears repeating:
Any healthcare reform supporters who merely complain about the Dems and Obama this week on these boards - thoughtfully, ironically, sarcastically, despondently - and don't pick up a phone or a Gov. email link, are nuts. You don't want it. You wouldn't recognize it if you got it. You're too lazy and afraid to fight for it. These guys work for us. Remind them.
After 60 years of attempting to get reform, this particular issue has transcended armchair posting. This is not Sunday TV Football - it's a 3-D issue that will affect our children for decades.
Bitch, but call and write too. Bitching on the phone is so much better. It's the original Democratic high.
14,000 losing health insurance per day is NOT a matter of choice.
I'm an Obama magical-thinker (where can I get a button for that!?).
But the Public Option is non-negotiable. It's a dealbreaker.
And any healthcare supporter who posts on this article today, and hasn't picked up a phone or an email link is a joke. Kvetching is easy; calling is all. You wanted government by adults? Act like one. Tell these guys what we want. Call, email, and then do it again.
Government with a spine and a sense of humor. You can't beat that.
Bill Clinton talked last week about how overwhelmed he was by enmity and disinterest regarding "Don't ask, don't tell". He also wrote an open letter saying that Obama is experiencing exactly what he did with health care reform - toxic special interests and a swarm of criticism, rather than assistance. Just a reminder - after Bill and Hillary tried to get us healthcare reform, Hillary was demonized for a decade, and left and right pilloried Clinton for a blow job.
I love Hillary, but she would be in exactly the same place as Obama. He's what we've got to work with. The right treats their presidents as Fearless Leaders. We treat ours as the Leaders We Love to Fear.
We are a sleeping beast of on-line snark and comfortable conversation. We are seduced by being able to bear our souls and minds on entertainment-politics sites. But very, very few of us act.
We have all the majorities we could want. Political muscle is like any other - it atrophies if you don't use it.
Call, and then write about your experience. You'll be helping untold others to do the same. It's the original Democratic contact high.
