Anyone who thinks McCaskill would help with MO has not checked the most recent state polls. McCain will take MO against Obama. Anyone who thinks she would help with women is unaware of how angry her former women supporters are in my neck of the woods. Anyone who thinks she can help with rural or lunch bucket dems hasn't taken a look at the MO primary results. She better hope he rewards her with something in his administration if there is to be such a thing because she has cooked her goose in MO. I'm just guessing but I wouldn't think he would really want her around much because judging by her embarrassing response to him I would think her middle-aged crush would be uncomfortable.
ps...furry_leaves? Gene is that you?
Don't you get just so sick of people who get up in the morning with the express purpose of defining you as something you are not. I swear they all have secret crushes on you. Otherwise why the obsession?
Thanks Kate...I have always known we are kindred spirits, you are far more willing to do battle online than I am and I appreciate your strength.
masaccio...your impatience with people who have feminist sensibilities or racial senibilities tells me that you have not experienced either kind of descrimination in your lifetime. It will take a while for Obama supporters to understand who played the racial card first. Any older AA cannot deny that the Clinton's have been on the side of racial justice all their lives.
dash 7...As a fellow Ann Richards fan are you trying to say she did not know how to play hardball? Are you saying that Hillary does not have progressive policies?
celia..any post I have written has been respectful of young women who support Obama. I have just asked that you stand up to sexism when you encounter it not that you change your support to Hillary. I have seen precious little of that. Instead I see posts that start with ....I am a feminist but,... and then proceed to catalogue a long list of Republican driven memes against Hillary. Why do you think they have been lying about her for so long? Which candidate really threatens the status quo? I did not say I will vote for McCain, I will probably write in Hillary and vote for my local Dems. As far as the Supreme Court goes well, maybe it is time you younger women took some risks and put women's rights out there instead of hiding safely from the fight and letting fearless women like Hillary take all the hits.
Calling me immature is not going to work, Josh Marshall already tried that and then continued to rally his bully boyz. That is when I stopped going to his site. I understand what you are saying about flame throwers online but the sexism has been just as apparent on cable,in newspapers,on network television,in magazines. Keith Olbermann's comment about some guy taking Hillary into a room and coming out alone, comes to mind. Editoral writers and columnists have used violent metaphors i.e... bodyblows, take her down, take her out, I could go on for pages. Democratic men who are leaders of our party have given virtually NO pushback all the while wringing their hands at any intentionally misunderstood so called racist comment. Obama himself has used his own "dog whistles" i.e.; claws come out, periodically down etc. Sorry, it comes down to core values and I have seen no evidence in the progressive left that women's rights are a core value.
I apologize if I missed your posts, I will need to go back and read some of your letters. I too read the responses to Rebecca Traister's piece and was disappointed in what I read. Maybe I didn't read enough of them. As I have written downthread. I DO care about women's rights but I have seen NO evidence that is is a core value of the progressive left or of the Democratic party leaders. I have come to a time in my life where my vote is not free and Obama has not earned it.
I'm getting worn out with this whole line of argument. If one does not stop the boys in their tracks when they are being sexist and show some solidarity then they are going along with the boys. I really don't subscribe to this idea that the youth know best and when I hear a parent say my child brought me to Obama, I think to myself well, that person really has no stake in the kind of economic change that Hillary could bring.Neither parent nor child has been up against the kind of economic hardship that many people who want a proven leader have experienced. Just do a little homework on Obama's economic advisors, one of them has written papers on ending Social Security for pete's sake.Giving great speeches does not make one grounded in the economy.Obama thinks policy papers are boring.
As far as the war goes Hillary is no neocon, she is a realist. Obama came out against the war at a safe antiwar rally in a safe liberal district of Chicago. Since being in the Senate he has voted exactly as Hillary has in regards to Iraq. Anyone who thinks Obama will get us out sooner than Hillary or even McCain is engaging in wishful thinking.Anyone who thinks they are moral and also thinks we can just pull out despite the wreakage we have wrought and the lives that would be put in danger needs to go over and tell that to everyday Iraq people who are scared to death. No we are stuck over there for the forseeable future.
