I appreciate the Obama supporters who have written thoughtful posts in answer to my earlier post. It is going to take all of us to win in November. I was impressed by the young people who let me know that they are struggling and not wealthy and they see the potential in Obama. No snark was intended in my post. The impression one gets from watching and hearing about the demographics in this race give one a different conclusion. The Obama supporters who can't help but be snarley are not helping their candidate and they certainly go against what he is about.I do find it to be an irony that some of his supporters can be so mean it makes me wonder.
I'm late to this thread and didn't have the fortitude to read all of the comments so somebody might have already made my point.I have always liked Schuster for his command of the facts and willingness to give push back to lying bambozelment on the part of guests to the show.Just like I admired Olberman's willingness to give push back to Bush way before anyone else on cable. I have watched with saddness as they have been coopted into the frat house led by Matthews and Carlson. Some of the women reporters have embarrased me with their acceptance of the status quo role for women giggle along with the boys! Yuck! I try to watch CNN now but if the big buffoon Carl Berstein is holding forth I have to turn him off as quickly as I turn off drug addled Rush whenever he pollutes the air I happpen to be viewing.I find myself just following along with Josh over on TPM.Much better for my blood pressure.
What a great article.I particulary enjoyed the letters written by college professors that were picked by the editor. Very thoughful discussion. I can't help but wonder who the proffs are supporting in the primary race. I wonder if any of them like me are beginning to become concerned by the deification of Obama and the messianic ferver of his supporters? It seems to me that some of the themes of Jacoby's book are coming into play in this phenomenon. The ususal suspects are not involved but it does seem to me that there are an aweful lot of people who one would expect to be rational that are engaging in "magical thinking".Obama is being turned into a Rockstar Saviour who can not possibly live up to expectations even if he turns out to be a good president.
for being off topic...I try not to do this however.....I wish you would apply your excellent brain to answering a couple of questions that have been on my mind.1. Why is the MSM handing us Obama on a silver platter? 2.Why are NBC,MSBC in particular trying so hard to take Hillary down? A couple of things I have run into lately are; General Electric is the only US company who has an interest in nuclear power, they want to build 29 plants, their president was in attendence at the celebration along with Bush and the leader of India when the Bush Administration broke our nuclear nonproliferation treaties to make a business deal with India. Obama says he is Okay with more reactors, while Hillary's approach is to create 300,000 jobs in a new economy built around the alternative energy industry.
Last night's debate was a relief for me as a Hillary supporter. She signaled to us that she was not going to hurt the party.Of course she won the debate on the merits as she has done her entire life. And she told the nation again why she is in it to begin with; a sincere desire to use her gifts to help the country and a sincere belief in herself as the agent of change.I believe that desire..to change things for people is at her core. Despite years of being;judged, ridiculed, demonized, mischaracterized in the most misyognistic terms imaginable, sabatoged by the press, and sometimes by her own husband she keeps going .That combination of intellect and guts does not come along very often and sadly the Democrats are going to take a pass.
I will stick with her until she says it is over. I will make phone calls to Texas and Ohio and hope against hope that the Democrats will stop and consider a few things like; which one is truely ready to take on the problems left by Bush and protect our country at the same time.
If Obama wins the nomination I will vote for him because I am a Democrat but I will let his followers do the work for him and pray that a man who has made it all about himself and encouraged his followers to make it all about themselves will remember at some point that there are many people hurting out in the country who truely do need solutions more than they need a guy who gives a really great speech.
