Original article: Hillary's race against time

@Milton - I do too.

I fear Barack Obama may be the worst thing to happen to Blacks and Civil Rights

I do too. Sincerely. It's over. GOP sweep. Did you see Nancy Pelosi today, the look in her eyes when she said there'd be no joint ticket? She knows what's coming in November and that her days as SoH are numbered.

I admit I've HAD it. And when I've finally had it, it's pretty bad. Whites voting for Obama "because he's black" as some idiot columnist on Salon suggested is in fact condescending just like the right says it is. Blacks voting for him in the numbers they are is not only prejudiced, it's rock-bottom stupid. It's one thing to have pride in a guy who is half black, or 1/4 black. Or whatever it is. But to stubbornly make it your near sole critiera and to be flashing the race-card in neon every five minutes at whomever genuinely disagrees that Obama is the bestest candidate is suicide.

Many of us who had no issues with blacks in our life genuinely believed Obama an egomanic with a weak resume, in fact the weakest of all the candidates on both sides, bar none. We just didn't believe a guy who was in the Illinois legislature less than four years ago and had no federal political experience was an appropriate experiment to take on a well-funded, lethal GOP and to fight a 3 front war and tackle a collapsing domestic economy and infrastructure.

This is, last I looked, a perfectly reasonable position well within a persons civil rights to have and arguably is even their civic duty. Yet, none of us, not ONE of us could even begin to say this w/o having a flashing neon race-card waved in our faces in less than a moment. not here and not in the national conversation and not among the candidates either.

Another nagging concern. I have to believe part of the success of rightwing demagogues like Rush Limbaugh, and Ann Coulter and a million am radio gasbags who say the same inflammatory things a little more veiled, IS because people were unable to have civil debates about the merits of affirmative action hiring or adjusted college entry scores and the things they wanted to talk about in a reasonable way w/o the same culprits shouting them down with accusations of RACISM.

Unfortunately, when civil dialogue cannot be had, the vacuum usually gets filled with something worse.

So what what is the fallout now with all these people who believed Obama never had a chance (certainly so if the states he's won are anything to go by) and are simmering now that we're on the brink of disaster? And who, btw, have never been racist and have had to listen to white and hispanic people everywhere been shouted down as uch tirelessly (and tiresomely)

I don't think everyone is going to go turn on Rush Limbaugh, but how many will we ultimately lose? What if one of them happens to overhear him matter-of-factly going on about how the "left always always rants about prejudice against blacks but loves black prejudiced towards whites"? Might they not listen on? Somehow decent people moved away from liberalism and started listening to that crap and voting GOP . My guess is it was never intentional but just because they happened to haer something that played to a personal experience, stopped and listened and then a little more, and so on.

anyway, I'm plenty tired.

@TomPayne

Yep, the whole notion of prostitution as a victimless crime is bankrupt.

Intellectually at least so much as morally too. Worst of all are the intellectual vacuums like the person who argues that it's crimeless cause the woman went into it on her own free will. Some twenty something without healthcare and education, had to run away at 13 when her stepfather raped her, has a kid to support probably too, and she's going to blow you for a sandwich, but hey, she's getting paid and it's her own "free will"!

I did my senior thesis at Berkeley on victimless crime. If recreational drugs were legal, there might be instances of victimless behavior, but that begs the question, not only of the public health implications ....I'm no bluenose, but I have to say I was gobsmacked by that statistic of one in four teenaged girls having STD.....Lives, reproductive futures, are at risk in appalling numbers.

Thank you. This is what they miss, the obvious costs and burdens on society. Hidden costs, opportunity costs, tangible medical costs. But lazy, fat slobs aren't going to get off the couch and do what they have to do so chicks like them. Easier to be as big as a barn and have someplace where you can pay someone to pretend they want you.

Personally I've never had to pay for it and if I did I'd consider it the worst kind of degradation. I think I'd sooner poke my eyes out with needles actually.

My quick look said that it's one if five white girls, one in two black girls.

If they're sexually active unmarried women, unfortunately I would wager far higher. Worse, the numbers for poor, rural blacks don't seem to be any better.

To be fair, though, our former president diid say that a blow job wasn't sex. As I dimly recall, it sure felt like it to me.

LOL! Me too. Ah, Clinton. Glenn's typical anti-Clinton diatribes not withstanding, it was obviously stupid of him, reckless even. Still, for some reason he obviously had some affection for the overweight, dysfunctional, low-rent Monica and clearly they had a little fun together. It just doesn't reek of the same kind of dysfunctionlism (not to mention moral rectitude hypocrisy) that Mr. Spitzer's engagements do. What a colossal waste of a career and talent; what is it they say, a candle that burns twice as bright will only burn half as long?
