Doesn't this poll underline what tools the so-called journalists of the MSM are?--you could never tell the Democrats won the election with all the Republican talking heads on the Sunday shows. They are doing to Obama exactly what they did to Clinton--hitting him from day one practically, managing the discourse to make him appear "weak" "in trouble," etc. Meanwhile, how long did it take these geniuses to begin to question the disaster that was Bush? Five years? These MSM'ers are the enemy--they need to be taken OUT of their perches of power. At least Barney Frank is raising some irrefutable issues. How many of these "fiscally conservative" Repubs went apeshit over the fraud, waste and general over-the-top spending in Iraq? What about McCain not paying taxes on one of his many houses for over four years?
I hope Frank Rich is right about the level of populist anger in this country--maybe people will finally be moved to action. I saw over the weekend a group of people facing foreclosure in Connecticut went and sat in (actually, they "moved in," bringing furniture to the lawn of the estate)on the lawn of some hedge fund manager who was lobbying to make sure they didn't get any bank relief. People also demonstrated in front of the home of some bank official. More of this! Please!
Yes, Geithner is either a liar or incompetent--Obama is making a major mistake standing by him (altho letting him go would open Obama up to all kinds of criticism). But Geithner is totally in bed with Wall Street--does he really think the American people are that stupid? I read that the next bailout for toxic assets has absolutely no caps on exec pay--how will he spin that one? If taxpayers are screwed once again, there could be reaction in the streets.
Maybe when they've finished coming clean on the Pentagon propaganda, these so-called journalists will discuss the heaps of bs they put out about "the Surge"--did you know, "the Surge is working" "the Surge worked" "Obama was wrong" "Bush had it right." They never seem to mention: the $30 million a month we pay to Sunnis who used to shoot at us; the over 2 million who have left Iraq; the thousands who were killed to ethnically cleanse their neighborhoods; our reining in of troop missions. The ONLY time I have seen "the Surge" discussed honestly was on Fareed Zacharai's show--a Congressman from Calif, I think--can't remember name--actually snorted when Fareed brought up the Surge's "success"--he said the only thing that is working is our payoffs to insurgents. BTW, Zacharia's show is one of the few to feature alternative viewpoints, free from crazed Republican screaming over someone else's comments. Maybe the MSM is fast becoming irrelevant, but people like Brian Williams still have a lot of sway over public opinion. My blood pressure goes up too much for me to watch them anymore.
on Dan Abram's show on MSNBC (during the time he was in charge of that network) when a left-ish commentator actually brought up the Pentagon propaganda on air--Abrams practically had a shit-fit on screen and interrupted the guy, saying he would be glad to discuss this during the break or off-air but this could not be discused on air--Abrams looked like he was having a heart attack.
The Dan Abrams show took place right after the Pentagon stuff all hit the fan--I can't remember the guy who brought it up--he was a kind of regular on those shows, young, messy dark hair, spoke very fast, maybe from Huffington Post. Dan wasn't horribly rude a la O'Reilly--he just seemed aghast that anyone would bring this up--perhaps there is an understanding among participants on these shows that you just avoid certin topics. He kept telling the guy "We can't talk about that here...I'm happy to talk to you after the show...look man, I can't get into that here..." He acutally looked a bit sick to his stomach. And yes, he is the son of Floyd Abrams.
Jay Bybee is on the faculty of the law school at UNLV. YOu can email him at jay.bybee@unlv.edu. You can email the law school at request@law.unlv.edu. And maybe send an email to UC Berkeley law school--it seems they've shunted Yoo off to some small Calif. school for the moment but still, this scumbag has tenure. And maybe you'd like to contact Stanford, where the supremely incometent C. Rice is going to be "working"--why are these people rewarded with high profile appointment? It's beyond me.
And I hope that all these torture(it works!)-loving Bush supporters will be thanking him and Cheney when the Taliban takes over Pakistan and gets their hands on nuclear weapons--yeah, keeping us safe, all right!
