I tried to post this on your previous blog but it didn't take.
First, Joe Klein writes a column on how dare John McCain try to stop the press from doing its job. Then, after Palin's speech, Brian Williams reads part of Klein's column on air, including all of the Repub lies about her record, ending with Klein's call to his colleagues to stand up to McCain. He's seconded in this by Tom Brokaw.(?!?) Today, Jay can't-remember-last name--who did the Time interview with a crabby McCain--is interviewed on MSNBC where he takes out Nicole Wallace (McC press person)for daring to suggest that asking Palin questions isn't a perfectly reasonable effort--Jay really displayed a lot of contempt towards the MCC camp for a mild mannered press guy.
I attribute all this to you Glenn, going after Klein so hard--it's WORKING. And I'm sure the media is pissed off that their boyfriend McCain is being so ungrateful. If he loses them, he is toast, I think.
That said, I do wish SOMEONE in the Obama camp would really go after Palin--she is George Bush 2000 and we all know how well that worked out, don't we? But she is just preaching to the choir--the lunatic people who still approve of Bush-Cheney. According to the focus group reports I read today, Palin played very badly with independents. But Obama needs to step it up--and I am sure he is capable of that. And HRC needs to talk out--her supporters apparently don't dig Palin at all.
I saw a poll where 80% of those questioned thought McCain's lack of vetting of Palin made him look bad...
those columns? Show picture of Bush 2004 with the exact same columns, then show a picture of him looking out the airplane window while a couple thousand people died in the Gulf--when he started looking awfully elite himself...when most people realized what an awful mistake was made putting him into office...
I think an emphasis on presenting Palin as a new Bush will go a lot further than attacking her personally--I have a feeling the press will continue to go there as well as into her politcal lies and positions...
Obama needs to be stronger on this, which is why his convention speech worked so well--he stepped up the passion. And I think he mught subtly goad McCain into losing his temper in one of the debates--McC is so obviously eaten up with personal jealousy towards BO...
Your work needs more exposure--I can see how already you have made a big difference...but I am repeatedly amazed and enraged by the duplicity of the MSM--maybe we should be picketing stations and asking people like Bob Schiefer to explain his brother's connections to Bush as he walks into his office at CBS--I think perhaps shaming these people is the only way...
These people control public airwaves that are supposed to serve the public interest...I watch in disbelief as they promote the Iraq War, use military propagandists (have ANY of the networks come clean about this? The closest I saw was a guy from the Huffington Post bringing this up on Dan Abrams show and Dan practically freaking out about it, telling the guy they could "discuss this after the show.") And now we have the "surge is a success" narrative--without one mention of the fact that we pay off Sunni insurgents to the tune of $30 million a month--this just won't stop until specific journalists are called to task one by one and the actual corporate interests of the MSM exposed. And, whatever one's opinion of Olbermann, it certainly looks like he is being humbled by MSNBC. And what is up with Andrew Sullivan's blog, so critical of McCain/Palin? Was he fired?
