A good long time of self examination with a non-religious counselor might help him regain his equilibrium. All this Bible quoting is best left shared with his pastor, not his shrink.
His wife has resources and can re-start her career or delay while her kids are young...whatever works. When my spouse dumped me for his "real" love, I had no choice because I had no money even though both kids were babies. You do what you have to.
There can be a great life on the other side of such marital disaster. However, I'll bet it will never be found in the current Sanford household and it wasn't to be found in mine. Too much water........ Move through the pain and move on....quietly. If we want to read Southern chick lit, we'll buy it and read it on the beach.
Beautiful writing. Thanks for sharing this beloved experience. I've noticed that people who are newly converted to the religion of their choice have this special glow and sense of peace. My best friend just converted in her 60's and she feels the same way you do. Most of my other friends were raised Catholic and left the Catholic church years ago. I don't know what that means.
I was Lutheran and left myself when I was 17 after years of really good religious experiences. I just didn't believe in it. To each his own path. Enjoy that special glow and sense of peace. My friend is. Maybe you both are on to something that many of us have yet to find and sustain over the decades in organized religion.
Have to wait and see how this really plays out and what the real truth, if any, is. No truth, no foul.
We'll just have watch WalMart get its legs knocked out from under it if it is true. You just don't mess with us Girl Scouts. I was selling Thin Mints 63 years ago and my daughter about 36 years ago. If I had grand daughters, they would be in scouting now.
Millions of women have a lot emotionally invested in scouting so there's no question that a boycott, both passive and active would be started at the grass roots against WM. I have a hard time believing that WalMart would pick this or any other fight with the Girl Scouts during a recession or any other time.
Seems to me that the GOP only knows one word since Obama was elected..NO! I live in one of the most Republican counties and states in the USA and I haven't heard any program proposals, negotiating or compromise at all. All they can say is no to this and no to that. The negativity is so depressing. I'm sure that was their plan. To take the glow off of Obama.
It hasn't worked for me, though. They have just totally tarnished themselves. Although I used to vote for both Republicans and Democrats (and independents), I will not vote Republican again until the party cleans up its act, backs off from its religious affiliation and comes toward the center.
Congratulations Diane! You have earned your chance and deserve it! I will continue my boycott of ABC since the "note" during the election was so tuned right as was Charlie Gibson. I will continue to get my news from PBS at 6-7PM. By the way, I don't believe Diane has any children but she was/is a quiet Republican.
I think that many right wingers are cheering the bad behavior of some GOP members at Obama's speech last night. If they don't know how to figure out outright lies from the truth, they have lost the ability to understand the meaning of civility.
Used to be that I was really worried about my government's decisions. Now I'm worried about the ability of a segment of our population to use real critical thinking and the ethics of a significant majority of the GOP still in power.
My neighbors and friends, all retired, really kind and caring people, college graduates and very successful in their previous careers from the Midwest and South, living in north Texas are drinking the Kool-aide from the right. We have had multiple discussions.
They all watch Fox and get these ugly GOP emails with the
GOP lies in them. They know where I stand about their flawed thinking but I have tried not to alienate them because they are part of my pack because I live here (not always easy for a progressive). I just refuse to talk politics any more with them for my own sanity.
I am admiring Laura Bush for her comments on respecting the President of the United States and thinking it was a good idea for Obama to talk to the kids about education. She is actually pretty moderate. I hope she continues to speak out to help maintain a 2 party system.
Let the judgmental people of the world, probably mostly in the USA, go judge themselves into hell. At least that's where the Bible thumpers will go who take that tome literally.
Our bodies respond to our neurochemical baths in and around the brain which are responding to medications, diseases, terror and the Spirit knows what else. First and foremost, we are human beings with a sacred spirit of some sort. Carrie is so gifted, so funny and so talented, they ought to name a city (a star in the universe) after her. The rest is salad dressing and unimportant to anyone but her and her personal health balance.
Stay out of her business!
Remember that if we are lucky enough to have a very long life, the body looses ALL perkiness, including you guys who may find something dangling on your knees. Signed a nurse who has seen it all!!
She was one of the few people that kept me sane in Texas. I keep looking for a journalist she might be channeling her wit and wisdom to.
